Yes ... 300 savage.... and forgot the 257 roberts... so i might read up on the 28 nosler. Reading online looks like a 800 round barrel.

Stick with the .300Wby. 150 to 180 gr and the recoil is tolerable. I load mine to 3050fps for 180gr (max is about 3250). Lots of reloading or factory stuff available.
The .300Wby just about does it all. Jim
Target is sighting in for short range bear hunt guide said would be max 100yds. It was previous sighted for 400yd WT hunt.

Hey, I've been shooting a 300 Wby for over 30 years. Two years ago I had it rebarreled to 300 Wby with a 26inch carbon fiber barrel. I had it threaded and put a APA gen 3 brake on it. The brake is awesome, it really reduces the "kick". If you already have a bunch of 300 Wby brass I'd stay with it.

I burnt out my 300 Weatherby Mk V at 800 or so rounds. I just ordered a Bartlein 3B 9 twist . After a lot of consideration, I am probably going to rechamber it back to the 300 WBY. Decision is based on my current inventory of components for reloading it. Also I'll be pushing Berger 230 Hybrid and using Area 419 Hellfire match brake.
One thing to keep in mind with the 300 WBY. is they have a very long throat/lead.

I inherited my dad's west German made mark 5 300 weatherby mag. The chamber and barrel have shot its last rounds. Completely done.


Going to be taking it to a gunsmith to give it new life. Any one have a 6.5 300 or a 270 weatherby mag ? Pros and cons ? How about any 28 nosler owners ?

Not a big fan of recoil but With the Weatherby i can make it into anything with a magnum boltface. 300-6.5, 7 mag, 27-28-30 Nosler, 300 PRC, etc.

Just loaded my son in laws German made 300 Wby with the 124g Hammer Hunter at 3825 fps. He took a great kudu and an eland with it when we went to Africa in September. Beautiful rifle for sure. I'm thinking Roy is smiling about this old rifle.

It seems like you are trying to fill the .28 cal void.Don't let that deter you if it is truly what you want. Don't run it got and you'll be fine. Another option is 7MM WBY. Or go with 7 MM STW; you'll have more brass options than the 28N. Good luck!

I will suggest that if you go with any of the 7mm's mentioned that you go with an 8 twist and give the 180 ELD M a try, that combo absolutely hammers( no pun intended) critters

I may sound boring, but I would either keep it a .300 Weatherby, or drop down to .257 Weatherby. The pair of Weatherby has proven themselves over the decades as great choices for almost any hunt. The other option I would consider is a .340 Weatherby, which has been called the perfect elk and moose cartridge by many. Yes, I would most likely keep it a Weatherby.

...just sell it or keep it, I wouldn't even think of touching it for that reason...just tone it down to 30/06 velocity and go hunting.. way to valuable even as an heirloom to touch..
