300 weatherby Accumark

I have a .30-378 Accumark and love it, it is a heavy pig but accurate as hell. I have hunted with a .300 Wby Accumark as well, also a great elk gun. Just ordered a Back Country in .257 Wby as well, just couldn't justify the cost of a MkV action for that round.

Either way there are lots of good suggestions here, any of the Wby rounds you mentioned are great for elk and the range you want easily.

I do not find either of the .30 Wby's uncomfortable to shoot FYI.....YMMV

the gun is more important than the caliber to me. either a sendero or accumark . and with any of the calibers you mention i would ad a brake to the 26" barrel.

Keep in mind that in this crowd "cannonitis" is a common affliction we all suffer from to varying degrees.

With the calibers you are discussing you will not notice any appreciable difference on game till you get beyond 800yds so unless you are really gearing up for greater distances than that it's all about what you want as they will all suffice.

I've killed bobcats and coyotes from 900-1,000plus with my 7mm STW's so the accuracy is certainly there with them but we cannot deny that you have the ability to get high quality bullets with higher BC's in the 30 cals.

Either the 300wsm, wm, or wby will work very well for you out to 1000yds and enable you once you get the rifle shooting right for you (obviously team effort) to handle game to a 1,000yds or further with confidence an authority.

Economically you cannot do better than the 300wm though so it is well worth considering.

I simply meant that I didn't think it was a heavy enough load to need it, no slight to the cartridge intended.

I have the Back Country on order in .257 Wby, I also think it's a great caliber. Just do not see the need to spend half again the cost to get the Mark V action in it.

Ok, I agree with you now. I was just making sure what you meant. You will love the .257 if you shoot the heavies out of it. 110 Nosler Accubond factory weatherby loads shoot well (I'd buy about 5 boxes, since .257 brass is hard as hell to find right now), and you can use that brass to reload later with some Berger 115 VLD's, which mine also likes.

I have read nothing but good things about the Back Country, and for a hair under $1K I think it is a decent deal. I plan on putting a Zeiss on it to match my .30-378 as closely as possible but apparently no 6.5-20 Conquests anymore so I will get as close as I can.

I have read nothing but good things about the Back Country, and for a hair under $1K I think it is a decent deal. I plan on putting a Zeiss on it to match my .30-378 as closely as possible but apparently no 6.5-20 Conquests anymore so I will get as close as I can.

For a .257 Wby brass hookup, i might can let you know where a few new Conquest 6.5-20x50's sit......

Now I have something else to consider. Doug, my friend and fan of the 30-378 informed me that Remington used to make a .300 WBY in the 700. I'm suffering from too much info. I should just buy the **** gun! I've shouldered it, like the feel of it, like the looks. Now I just need to make time and go out and shoot it!

A 300 weatherby sendero may be hard to find. they were only made a year or so. if you get the accumark you can get going.

You might want to check out the cost of rechambering and remarking the barrel. A bit of Google searching shows that it's about $150 and up if you believe posted prices.

$1200 new for a Sendero vs $1500 for a new Accumark. That gives you a $300 cushion which goes down to under $150 with rechambering, but after a while when the price becomes that close you have to ask yourself which one you really want.

For the price difference I'd take the Accumark with the shorter bolt throw and stronger action, but that's me.
