300 ultra mag barrel length

So I've decided on a 300 ultra mag on a 700 action , trigger tech trigger and pure precision carbon stock, most likely factory bottom metal. My question is I've got a choice of 2 different length barrels 26 in 1:10 or 21 1/2 in 1:10 . I'm putting in for a central Mt tag this year for big bull elk and I've got 6000 acres to hunt but the land owner wants me to shoot suppressed so the short barrel would be easier to handle. I will have 1000ish yard shots so the 26 would be better. I'll be trying Berger , Hammers , Nosler bullets in the 180-190 class . I've got lots of h4350 , imr4350 , h1000 , 4831 short cut. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Barrel choice is purely up to you and what you're willing to carry. Of the powders you listed H1000 is the only one appropriate for a RUM.

If you decide to go with a short barrel make sure your suppressor is rated for it.

With a 1:10 twist, not sure the Hammers will get you to 1k or beyond.

Tell us more about the hunt. Are you packing in far or do you have easy access? If easy access, length and weight mean little. Not sure how much you'd lose in 4.5", likely not enough truly matter.

Easy access for a short time them packing in 3 or so miles but the mountains are steep . Looking at the hammer website 1:10 twist puts me up in the 190 grain range but I'd call Steve for help

The barrel length is entirely up to you for your intended purpose. The longest barrel for my LR set-up is 30" (most are 26-28") plus the MB and suppressor. Regarding barrel twist, I would go faster than the bullet minimum twist rate recommendation, i.e., 1:10 or faster; I would go with 1:9," but that's just me. It's what I did on my last three builds—1:7" .257 WBY, 1:7" .264 WM, and 1:8" .338 Thor.

H1000 and 26" with a 10 twist. 190-208 range, 180ish for monos.

If going mono, check min impact velocity.

If you are trying to kill elk at 1000 yards then use the 26" barrel. Screw the suppressor on once you get into position. Not much point in building a handy, flame thrower when trying to shoot long distance. If you can't pack the gun in, how do you expect to pack the meat out?

I hunt with 21" 1-9 twist with a RexSitentuim MG 10 it's great I shootout to 1100 yards with it all the time and my farthest kill is 628 yards.

There is a huge difference between shooting to 1000 yards and KILLING at 1000 yards, which means you need to be shooting to 1500 for practice. I kill stuff at 600 yards with a variety of cartridges, including my 308 and I shoot a 308 to 1000 yards too. That doesn't mean I would try to kill stuff with the 308 at 1000 yards.

A little touchy I'd rather practice and stay in my comfort zone 700 yards for me
