300 PRC dying?

I seem to be seeing people moving away from the 300 PRC?? Is this my slanted view or is this a real thing?? Maybe some are trying it and finding it mostly hype??

I don't think so. If they are it's a mistake. I've been comparing magnum cartridges all week and the .300 PRC is a very efficient design (and it takes a lot for me to say that about a Hornady Cartridge). I've been comparing a long throated 300WM, long throated 30 Nosler, 300 PRC and a 300 Norma Mag Improved. The top performers in terms of velocity are looking to be the 300 PRC and the 300 Norma. Factory to factory there looks to only be about 50fps difference between the PRC and the Norma but the Norma uses 5 more grains powder to get there.

When comparing improved versions of both cases the gap opens to about 80fps difference but uses 6 more grains of powder.

I recently got rid of a 300 prc, some components. Kept some in case I get another. Easy caliber to load for, seems a variety of bullets and powders work well in it. I'll have another some day.

Then I see a PRC in a fast twist barrel at 22'' and wonder is it a step forward to take a step back?

In running scenarios in QL, the PRC outruns the Nosler with 230 class bullets.

Not much Hype, I just know it out performs almost all my other stuff besides my Normas and Warbirds...

It fills some sweet spots and shines once I'm in the transonic range with the 230 gAy Tips.

My 30 nosler glides at 3,100'. My prc right at 3,060. My two 300 win mags shoot 3,000 with the 215's. At the 230's it pretty much a wash between the two. Velocity varying no more than 20' between them.

Hard to argue with results you are seeing. How long are you seating your Nosler rounds?

Unless you build a custom rifle with a cip length magazine and know of a better brass manufacturer than lapua that makes 30noz brass......the 300prc wins. Hopefully everyone moves away from the 300prc and develops an allergic reaction to RL26 and magnum primers

Agree with Duckman11, run away now! Even the factory 212 ELDX is going for $80 and up a box in most places. GAP will let you buy two boxes a day at $55.

Jokes on everyone. I bought 2 boxes of hornady match 3 days ago off the shelf at academy for $52 a box. It's not 5.56 prices but it dang sure ain't 30nosler prices either.
