.30 GIBBS is finally ready ...

That's a neat looking cartridge. The neck looks CRAZY short!

It is .225", not much shorter than your .300 WM's. "I" knew exactly what "I" am getting to and exactly what "I" wanted. ;)

"IF" having a short neck is bad juju, check this out ...

Also, below is a comment from a wildcatter with many years of real-world experience in the subject with the baddest wildcats I have seen with the coolest names to go with them ...

I had mine before some of the current powders existed and if you want to go old school, IMR 4831 gave excellent velocity and accuracy with 180-190 class bullets.
RL17 worked very well too.
about 63 grs IMR 4831 worked great with a 190

I will follow this thread for results. What brass are you starting out with? I found some brass already manufactured in that chambering.

I have an early Remington 725 chambered in 30 Gibbs. It's a custom done long ago. Looks to have been sitting in someone's grandpa's gun cabinet. Very little use on the rifle and the trigger has been worked on. I am anxious to see your results.

Awesome! I am aware of Qual Cart @ $1.97 but they have been out for awhile esp. with COVID-19. RCC also makes them for $5.51 a piece. I am using Hornady's .35 Whelen for starters.

What is the reason the 308 was better than the 30-06 in the first place. Using the same case and changing the neck, does that fix the basic 30-06 flaw?
Does the 30-06 have a flaw? I thought it did it's job just fine, I've only used an '06 on skunks and woodchucks but I know it has a cult like following.

You don't see any competitive shooters using 30-06 and the military didn't choose it after the Garand or in the Garand, always wondered why? That's all. It kicks like a mother. 308 seemed to end up the standard?

Nothing wrong with the 30-06. No flaw other than maybe it was more than necessary for the job the military does. More powder, more brass for each case, little more recoil. The powder and brass costs add up when dealing with the quantity's that a military uses/needs. And none of this has anything to do with a 30 Gibbs.
