30-06 pet loads

I know this is the wrong bunch to be asking for a pet long range loads for an 06 but Ive shot one since Moby Dick was a frog and still love tinkering with it. Im also so old I cant even SEE past 600 yards so there you have it. Id like some pet long range hunting loads..preferably for 165 gr. if possible.gun)Arm yourself and live longer.

I've used this load in 3 different rifles and all 3 shot sub MOA groups with it. It's not the hottest load but it has been really consistant. 2800 - 2900 depending on barrel length.

Used to shoot the 150-165 Hornady Spire Point but don't remember the loads exactly. I have sense moved up to bigger bullets as they carry more energy down range. I spend most of my hunting time chasing mature bucks and hunt bull elk mainly for meat but look for mature bulls. Don't like shooting cows or does but that's just me. Want a bullet to work well out to 700 yards so moved up.

Here is the load I'm using right now. Still trying to refine the load. It's a half grain over recommended so start a few grains below.
Berger 190gr Hunting VLD
58gr H4831
.070 jump
ES around 25fps
2680 avg fps at the chrono 15 feet away.

Shooting about half MOA at 335 yards 3 shot groups. Not quite as good at 450yards. Just got the 800 yard target set up so now I can see what's really up with this load and refine.

58 grains h4831 and a 200 grain accubond, federal 215 primers, will get you 2650 fps. It's warm but never given me trouble with any 200 grain bullet for many years. With a good calibrated cap it will get you to 500+, and keep enough velocity for expansion. There has been so many of these threads lately, I'm going back to the drawing board this spring, and try some R22.

Not hijacking this thread but how accurate did you get the 200gr Accubond . I took a buck and a bull with the 200gr two seasons ago and like the way it preformed on the animal both were between 450 and 470 yards. I tried RL22, 4350 and RL19 using Federal 210 Primers and Win brass. Was never satisfied with the accuracy. H4831 I have not tried but will if yours preformed.

For the OP both Nosler and Berger bullets are worth trying

Not at all. Just because there are longrange shooters here doesn't mean there's no 30.06 fans! I'm one!

I've got two for my Sig SHR970 (bbl. length measures 21 29/32" - stamped 22"). The first is the lighter of the two and has worked on a few deer - one at 175 yards and the other at about 230. It benches tight groups (2.3" at 400 yards), but I haven't shot anything at that distance.

The second is heavier and maintains more momentum at longer ranges. It also groups better and more consistently.

This is not a heavy bullet load, but one that I have been loading for over 35 years. It's about the only load I ever shoot thru my 06, and have taken everything that I have ever shot at with it from prairie dogs, coyotes, antelope, mulies and whitetails, and elk. I have never shot anything with it that hasn't dropped virtually in it's tracks.

I have no chrono, so don't know the ballistics, but it has always been a good shooter for me with exceptional groups.
