So after some discussions with @bamban on Serengeti reamers, I finally got my 06 finished off. Edit: my gunsmith/friend knows Serengeti reamer designs quite well so the rifle has unique throat. Will bet it shoots lights out.

26" Mcgowen Sendero contour
1:9tw Serengeti bore rider 0.170 freebore added
Triggertech trigger
MDT Field stock
Black graphite cerakote
700LA trued

It's intended for 180HH and 168HHT's. Prob everything else I have on shelf.

So basically spin off of my 270TH to maximize efficiency and performance of standard cartridges instead of latest and greatest.

Old school cartridges are cool when you take the "governor" off them. They will surprise many with their performance.
That's a fact I still like what you did with the ol 270 as well. I'm not much on the newer cartridges I like what's tried and true. I've also always liked the idea of a 30-06 ackley as well but the regular ol 30-06 with little faster twist and free bore like you have done here will be plenty enough to take game with heavy bullets.ive always liked the idea of heavy per cartridge 30 cals but then again im a 30 cal snob lol

I really like this. Everyone wants to run short barrels for long-distance hunting... why? A 26" barrel is going to give you more than 100 ft/sec over a 22" barrel, have less apparent muzzle blast, hold steadier, etc. You are right there with the performance of a .300 Win Mag out of a 20" barrel.

I'm building a similar rifle off of a Mausingfield M7 short action. I'm going to run a 26" barrel in 6.8 Western for deer and elk in the West and likely do the same for a 6 GT for coyotes, and use Sendero profile CF barrels to keep the weight down.

I was just looking at picking up a 30-06 this weekend to fill a gap in the collection. Of all the rifle I've owned, I've never had one. I was always bucking it, not wanting a rifle everyone has. Now I sit with a bunch of cartridges that everyone has and I don't have an '06! This just maybe my next build. Thanks for posting your build Muddy. I really like it and the idea.

Looks like a great rifle.
I would be interested in your load development process. After trudging around Newfoundland with an11 pound 300 PRC I asked the gentleman who makes my rifles to come up with a new lightweight rifle for me. He suggested the 06 and he is in the process of making one now.
It will be based on the lightweight Tikka T3 barreled action and an OMR carbon fiber stock. Probably a lightweight Swaro scope to round it out. Goal is less than 7 lbs total.
I plan on using the Hammer Hunters bullets as well with Lapua brass and N550 powder.
