270 Wsm

I just finished loading up some 150 VLD's I went with COL of 2.83:
150 VLD .277
federal 215 primers
H 4350 56.3g, 56.5g, 56.7g, 56.9g
150 VLD .277
CCI mag primers
RL22 63.5g, 64g, 64.5g, 65g
I cant wait to get to the range and see how these will group. I was going off of what Roundss is using for the H4350. I have seen people using up to 61g of IMR 4350 but I will wait and see how these powders work first. Keep the info coming guys the more we help the better this caliber will be!!!

So I finally got out to the range. I shot up the H4350 rounds I had loaded and was not happy at all with the groups. After letting the barrel cool for an hour I started shooting the RL22. The 63.5 left me with a group of about 3" at 100yds.. Then I shot the 64g and the group shrunk to 2".

So its moving in the right direction. The tightest group I got was 3/4" at 100yds 2880 avg FPS, with 65g RL22 Rounds right to the lands. I am loading some up this week and I am going to push the envelope.

I plan on loading 65g, 66g, 67g, 68G again using the OAL of 2.83 and the Berger VLD's. I will keep everyone informed when I get back from the range.

OK so I got back from shooting the RL22 rounds at 65.5, 66, 66.5, 67, 68, 69.
The best groups were with the 66 grain I was seeing around 3250-3260 on the chrono and The group was the best yet at .605

When I got up to 68, 69g I was having a little trouble lifting the bolt so I didnt push it. Besides it seems my rifle like less than the ragged edge anyway.

PS. the wind was blowing full value at 10-15 with gusts at 25.
I am sure on a calm day I can tighten these groups up a bunch!

Has anyone used Ramshot Magnum (bigboy)? The fps, on paper, look good. From what I've seen they're getting it over 3,000 fps and one place shows over 3,100 shooting a 150 gr swift a frame.

Today out of my Accurized Mod 70 I shot two loads. 130gr Hornady SST and 110 gr V-Max.
130gr SST 65.5grs of IMR7828 Fed Mag primers shot very poorly 2"groups at 100.
110 V-max 68.6 grs of Re#19 produced 5 shot group .608 this will be my coyote load.

Today shooting 110 V-maxs using Re#19 produce excellent accuracy.Problem I'm out of Re#19 but have H4350. Today's loads were shot in SF Bay area under mild winter conditions. MV was about 3475. End of this Month ( January) I'll be hunting in Ontario Oregon in maybe 25 degree weather. H4350 is supposed to be stable as weather temps change. H4350 is real close to Re#19 I wonder if I develpe a good load down here how it will perform in that extra cold environment ? This will be my coyote load.

What kind of dies are you guys using? I have not loaded for my Savage 12FVSS in 270WSM yet. For my other bolt rifles, I have always used standard RCBS with standard neck sizer with good results, but I am sure some of you have other favorites.

Thanks,
Tom

I'm shooting a Savage 12 fvss 270wsm, worked up a load using 71gr of Rutumbo, Fed 215's, 140 gr AccuBond .010 off the lands. Getting 3340fps, .80 five shot groups. Every other load working between 69gr to 71gr would run around an inch+. I still need to dial it in a little more to get it more consistant but it's looking good. COAL is 2.890 and it will cycle fine through the magazine.
I'm also working with 140gr Sierra's and want to get my hands on some 140gr Bergers.

Finally.........someone loading the WSM to WSM capabilities!!

A lot of folks seem to be loading it to the 270 Win velocities..........

If you go to the 150 class bullet you may with to try 7828ssc,

Now you got me thinking . I've been shooting Speer 150gr SPBT with 71.3grs of Mag Pro. I bet I'm getting 3,150 FPS .No pressure signs,no flattened primers. Bolt life is normal. Great accuracy I otta try a little bit more fuel. Have you pushed yours faster?

My barrel is 1:11 twist and I'm concerned that it won't spin the 150gr bullets fast enough.
I'm not sure that going to the 150gr is justifiable. Using LoadBase, I punched in my data but using Berger 140 and 150 gr for bullet data, assuming 3150fps for the 150's there is no advantage to the 150's till 700 yd and only a very, very little gain in energy.
If I get on the lands I average 3390fps but it goes to a 1.5 group, I'm getting very little pressure signs but I need to get my ES tighter for long range.
I've been thinking about trying some MagPro also.
The only other rifle that I've liked this much is a Savage 250-3000AI, I'm really liking this 270wsm, :) you would't think it has the punch it does by shooting it. My goal is to have it all worked out by this fall so I can shoot 4-5 deer with it and get a good feel for what it will do and how the bullets perform.
