i have hunted with a 270 Remington 700 for almost 40 years. The same rifle. Love it. It is great for the areas I hunt in South Carolina. Always shot 130 grain bullets. Anyone loaded or shot the new higher ballistic coefficient bullets? Saw some today Hornady has and also Nosler. Seems it would make the 270 a better long range cartridge

With your twist and elevation you are stuck with the 150 gr max. The Hornady 145 ELD-X has done good for me. If you get a new barrel go with a 1/8 twist and you will be able to shoot the heavies.

I agree, the 145gn ELD-X and/or the 150gn Accu Bond Long Range are about all the "heavies" you're gonna get to stabilize with your standard .270Win 1-10 twist barrels. Or maybe I should say: "the 150gn class of cup/core bullets". With the normal 22" barrel, you may get 2950fps with the 150's. Have no real world experience with the .270Win + 150gn projectiles. Like you, I've mostly shot the 130gn and "back in the day" they served me well as a 0-400yd bullet while using hounds for deer hunting here in N.C.. That's was probably 30 years ago and about the time I really starting stretching it on out there and pursuing long range hunting encounters.
If you decide to re-barrel the ole' girl definitely get a 8t and it will make a world of difference in the artillery you can serve up.
All it's going to take is one new, great .270 cartridge, marketed right, and the .270 cal will be in the spotlight. I like 6.5's and 7mm's but look what's setting right in the middle of those two great, long range calibers!

Hi guys, anyone have factual bullet speed for Hornady 140gr SST Superformance fired from a 22" barrel
(Sauer 100)

Not the SST, haven't tried them but I use the Interlocks SPBT (#2735) good BC for a hunting bullet (0.486) in my Winchester M70 pre-64 featherweight (22" barrel). My pet load has chroned then at 3,044 fps when I 270_2010_03_26.1.jpg270_2010_03_26.1.jpg last used them. And did they shoot

thanks, sounds about right, I have other reliable data which puts them at 3020fps so I'll go with that.
not bad for a factory load I guess.
