Ive got a nice load for my 270 using H4350 but theres still a lot of room for powder and Id like it to be faster. Should I be cautious about a compressed load with this powder? Im already over max published data with no pressure signs. Seated at 3.35" oal.

Only so much powder will burn in the barrel. Sounds like if you want more performance you either need a different powder or a longer barrel. You are tip toeing around a dangerous trend of just throwing powder in a case to see how fast it can go. A 270 is a 270, it can only do so much and you will not achieve magnum performance with it.

1. How fast is it going and what bullet are you using?

My current load is a Berger 140 classic hunter, win. brass, cci 200, 52.6 grains of H4350. Seated at 3.35" oal. 9 shot group averaged 2866 fps. 22" barrel

What kind of accuracy are you getting? I would take accuracy over velocity anytime. You need to find the best compromise between accuracy and velocity.

What are you using the load for? And to what ranges yearly on game?

H4350 is a heck of a good 270 propellant. That said, you could inch up a bit but once you go over 2900 in the 270 with a 22" barrel you're pretty much there...

Give R26 a go if you're after more speed. But, you may well get the speed but at the cost of a bit less accuracy.

More powder won't necessarily result in a faster round or better performance. It may do the opposite. The barrel is only so long and only so much powder will burn up in the barrel in the allotted time.

I will take accuarcy over speed any day. You don't need a dragster to drive to the supermarket! I have found that less than the top amount powder from a load book normally gives me a better accuarcy most of the time.

With a 140g bullet I would think a little slower powder like H4831, R22, Norma 204 or MRP. I use R22 in my 22" barreled 270win rifle with good velocity and accuracy. I believe a friend I load for uses R19 with a 140 Nos AB with good results but his is a 24" barrel.

You will get better velocity with H4831SC and it will probably be a full case. RL23 is another good option for the 140s and 150s. I do not use H4350 with 140s, in my 22" Win Featherweight. H4350 and RL16 work really well with the 130s but the accuracy which is primary in my opinion and velocity from my rifle is better with H4831SC with the 140s.

I'm shooting H4350 51.1 gr 150gr Nosler Partitions CCI200 primers Federal cases in a Sig 970shr .270win. less that 1moa at 250yds and 2894fps absolutely deadly on whitetails to 350yds so far. It is far from a full casing. I like to shake the round and feel that in has powder in it.
