Bought some 85gr hammers to load as a low recoil .270 load for my son. Only data is for W760. Only powders I have close to that are IMR 4350 H4350 VV540 IMR 4451 and H380

Which powder do y'all suggest and starting point.

While I don't have any hammer bullets, QL list them. I'm not sure what coal should/could be, but went with this length.
MAX PRESSURE
v540, 3.100", 24", 59.1gr, 100.8% fill, 3,722fps.
IMR4350, 62.0gr, 107.5% fill, 3,617fps (not max psi)
H4350, 61.0gr, 107.5% fill, 3,545fps (not max psi)
H380, 60.6gr, 102.2%, 3,761fps
IMR4451, 60.5gr, 105.5%, 3,717fps

I haven't done any corrections or trust QL 100%! I have 2 of the 5 powders listed and reload 270win with Speer 90gr tnt. Speer #15 data shows 2.170", H380 @ 55.0-59.0gr.

Big help thank you.

Start h380 at 55g, start h4350 at 59g, start imr4350 at 58g. One of these three will give you a good load. The 4350's will likely run out of case before you can get to pressure but may still produce good vel. H380 should have enough case space to get to pressure.

I'd try the 4350's and H380. Back in the late 70's I got into shooting PD's with my one and only rifle. A M77/270 and I used 90 Sierra's with those powders. The 90 Sie is a lights out performer in terms of accuracy and killing pd's or small big game like deer and lopes.

I'd look for 90 grain load and work off them. Shouldn't be overly tough to find one to perk!

Trailboss powder…I've used it many times for reducing recoil for new shooters learning to deal with recoil. Check Hornady, etc for appropriate loads.
