So I have some factory federal ammo loaded with 130gr gameking, they shoot great out of my gun. I'm wanting to replicate the land the best I can, since Federal discontinued them. I have the bullets, and 3 powders to choose from, H4350, H4831SC and H1000. The bullets shoot 3008FPS out of my rifle. If I was to set the length of the reloads to the same of the factory loads, look in the book and load as close to the 3000FPS, would it really matter which powder I chose?

This is like a deja-vu conversation I had with a buddy of mine 6 months ago.

His rifle shot 1/2" groups with the Federal Premium 270 Win 130 gr Sierra factory loads. (Mfg part number P270D). He had 3 left, and couldn't find any more as they were discontinued. He called me to see if we could "roll some ourselves".

We pulled a bullet, and based on the look and weight of the powder, it was likely similar to H4350.

I had about 6 boxes of those 1820's, so we re-manufactured with the same COAL / CBTO using H4350 with a ladder from 52.5 - 54.5 gr.

54gr with my lot of H4350 gave the same velocity and accuracy of the factory loads.

FYI the factory loads shot 3022, 3026, and 3011 fps - which is pretty close to what you observed.

I have 2 full boxes left, so plenty of time for me to find the combination. I had my handloads stretched out quite a bit longer than the factory loads. Going to suck them down to factory length

For giggles I tore a factory one apart to weigh the charge which was 52.9gr. The powder is very small, I don't have anything along those lines.

Following with the same problem. My gun shoots this favorite ammo like tack driving. Is there not a way to get the exact factory recipe from Federal??? I have a few boxes left but just had my scope trashed and need to shoot a few the get the new scope back on track.

I didn't look into it that far. I lucked out and picked up 5 boxes this summer for $120 shipped to my door.

Kinda odd, when shooting these through a chronograph, the fps was all over the place. But the groups are dam good

That almost looks like 6.5stable. But who knows could be another ball powder.
