It is so true- those of us that have self migrated to these types of pages are always looking for something different. It is true you can kill a Deer dead with a .308, or an open sighted 30-30. You can also drive a yugo or walk to work.
Attitudes that shut down ideas don't help anybody and they turn away a lot of new people looking for answers. somebody asks- hey has anyone thought of this? And the answer is " just buy a 7mm". That wasn't the question. And as an owner and past owner of various 7mm calibers, I'm not biased- that much.
So we keep searching and standing on the shoulders of those who came here before. LTLR, KIRBY, BIGNGREEN, FEENIX, BUDLIGHT etc. one day marketing will catch up to us, but we will be on to something else by then.
BJD, thanks again for the inspiration...
Interesting part about our .277s...as I ran the conversions...it seems like 7mm=.276"...so are we actually running the true 7mm?
Funny part about the speedier 270s...I waited over a year for one of the first Mausingfield, long action, mag face action...everything I read about the Mausingfield short actions were the cat's meow...I needed a longer mag box than my stock Mark V 270 Wby action to better utilize the longer .277 bullets...
Ted, the owner of the American Rifle Company, who makes the actions...asked me what cartridge I was going to use with his long action (funny part about this, Ted, at the time, was running his company off his laptop)?
I told him a 270 Wby. He was quiet and he just typed in my info...I think he was hoping one of his first long actions were going to a different cartridge...
So with the longer mag box I was able to utilize most of the volume of the 270 Wby case shooting the 270 heavies...
Who thought, with a cartridge older than me, that would push a year and a half old 170gr bullet to 3225 fps, pushed by RL26, with a huge jump to the lands...would work with a sub .5 MOA (well, I shoot mils)...
You still have to try to get your gun to shoot the 270 (7mm?) heavies...
