27 Nosler

Not that I do not want to try the 140 SBD2 because I do want to try them but when I run the 170 elite at 3250 fps and the 140 at 3450 fps they are so close out a long ways that it would be a hard decision which one to shoot.

The reason I personally like the 140, is that I know it works at long range as good as the 170, since we have used the 140 on elk out to over 700, and the 170 on elk out to 900, and also, if we have a shot at close range, I know the 140 holds together even with impact velocities over 3000 fps. However, we haven't shot any elk with the 170's really close, so I personally can't say how the Berger would do at high impacts. But with a shoulder joint impact of say 3100 fps with the 170, vs 3300 with the 140, I would feel better with the 140.

But if all your shots are likely to be lower velocity impacts, I really can't say anything bad about the 170 Berger, it killed quite a few elk, deer and pronghorn with authority for us as well, and was VERY accurate.

I would prefer the 140 over the 170 for my hunting distances but I have the 170 already and it's not that simple to get the badlands up here in communist Canada.

I have one getting chambered right now in 27 nosler . It was a 270 wby built on a Fierce Rival long action with a 27 " 1-8 twist benchmark.
I can wait to get it back.
I had the 170 elites up to 3125 fps when it was 270 wby so I'm hoping to easily get to 3200 + once it's a 27.
75+FPS is worth a chamber cut and new bbl joB ? But iots cool its our hobby.

Probably not worth it , but I like to try new things and this is a relatively cheap way to try something new.
3125 fps was pushing the 270 wby pretty hard to get there. My thoughts are that I might be able to do 3200 + fps with out stomping on it so hard.

The 140 BD2 would be crazy in something like this. That would be flat shooting with a great BC.
Thanks for that, didn't know about them.

BTW, my 270-300WM launches 170's at 3200+ easily. I typically use 150TTB@3320. I always thought Winchester missed the boat when they didn't do a factory 270-300WM.

So anybody build one on 700LAM? Looking for any feedback for 170EOL, 156HH etc. Curious just how much more "bang for buck" versus crazy .270TH? I am thinking gotta be laser with either 170EOL or 156HH.
What is the .270TH? Looking at doing a .277 in the near future and was eyeing up necking down the 7 prc case to .277. But curious what this .270TH is

It's a standard 270 win with a long throat and faster twist rate. But the cartridge itself is dimensionally no different. Unless I'm mistaken? Oh @Muddyboots….

The .270TH is local LRH joke of .270Win on 700LA with 3.63 magazine COAL that provides more case capacity for 156HH and RL 26. The results were kind of surprising due to having extra freebore, long COAL and 27" Light Palma 1:8 barrel. Really nothing extraordinary except for the results. Its what the .270 should have been! The 156HH ended up topping out close to 3300 and settled load is 3200 which is pretty good for a .270Win.

All copper bullets are inherently tougher bullets than lead core jacketed bullets. They will penetrate substantially deeper at any angle and impact velocity than a lead core bullet will. The most lethal shots I have taken are quartering chest shots where I know the bullet will traverse both lungs and exit perforating the major pulmonary blood vessels causing rapid exsanguination into the chest cavity. Also, since the lighter bullet has virtually the same BC as the heavier one but is being propelled 200 fps faster at 1000 yds under the same conditions the 140 will be still going about 137 fps faster.
