265 TTSX in 338

Interesting read. I figured with a 338 Lapua you could shoot 300 grains of jello at something and kill it!! Ha Ha. Just curious if the Barnes would pencil through the animal?

I have been reloading, shooting & generally around Barnes bullets for quite a while (since the original X). My experience with penciling has been a combination of 2 occurances.
1.) Heavy for caliber bullet i.e. 160+ grn in a 7RM at exteneded ranges 450+
2.) "Conventional" Bullet placement (usually with the above combination) of behind the shoulder shot & having the bullet not contacting anything solid.

I have advised many of new reloaders/shooters who want to shoot the TSX to drop down 1-2 bullet weights for their particular cartridge and/or aim to break the onside shoulder; which in my experience has put many a grins on shooter's faces.

Now that we have the TTSX I believe Barnes has really put a hamper on penciling, with the polymer tip initiating expansion much more reliably at lower velocities/extended ranges. But whether you shoot the TSX or TTSX, place your shot on bone & don't worry about trying to find a wounded animal cause you won't have to look very far

I have used the triple shocks out of my 338 RUM and Khan and they perform very well on critters, and accuracy has been good as well, although not as good as SMKs.

As LTLR and elkregulator mentioned the 210 swift scirroco can be pushed to some pretty high speeds, has a decent bc and great terminal performance. It has been a while since I shot those, but they do perform well.

Don't forget about the 300 Bergers. They are getting a little hard to find but 3rd gen shooting supply still has some. I shot an elk, several antelope and deer with them this year. Terminal performance was great, good exit holes but they did not blow up even the antelope. (except the one I hit dead in the shoulder) I am running them at about 2900 fps and they shoot great for me. Just ordered another 250 of them to go with the 500 I already have in stock..... I like them.

Good advice. I am glad to hear your experiences. I have considered loading some TTSX for my 7RM. Thanks for the input.

Bringing this one back up. Anyone have load data for the 265gr TTSX (LRX) for the 338 Rum using Retumbo and/or H1000?

Well I'm going to throw another bullet in the mix. You might want to look up Cutting Edge 252 grain bullets in .338. My brother-in-law put a big muley to sleep permanently in its bed at 1400yds with one shot. My guess it is going to be equally devastating on an elk at that distance.

There 225's have a BC of .640 and better depending on which model you get.
