264 win mag for elk?

I've been looking for someone who is using 129 ablr in a 1:9 twist .264WM. Can you tell me what kind of accuracy you are getting and any load specs that are working gor you?
thanks

In limited shooting (1 box) with the Hornady 129s, my 264wm in 1:9 twist liked the Hornady 140 gr SSTs over the 129 gr Hornady SSTs and the 143 gr Hornady ELD-Xs. I only tried one powder with the 129's, H1000. IMR 4350 worked well with the 140 SSTs, MVVs average 3028 with 57.0 gr. I know a guy who might be able to add to the conversation, contact Larry Romano at http://www.romanorifle.com/1401.html, he is a master gunsmith and his favorite rifle is the 264 wm.

That is the problem with the 6.5 that are way over bore. They build pressure before you utilize all the case capacity. 26 Nosler is an example of a case that can't reach its potential, poor design IMO. As other said you will have a tough time finding a 140 gr long range style bullet that will work in a 1/9 twist. Look into 129 LRAB, 130 AB or a partition. They will stabile and kill elk. I've killed 3 elk with the 129 LRAB.
agree on this point, esp the 130 AB. The 140 Gamekings play well, too.

Just like the title says is it a good choice. I know there are better bigger options but this is my rifle I am most familiar with.
A good barnes ttsx 130 or heavier will do the job. My daughter put a 130 ttsx through both shoulders on a big zebra stallion, he made it about 30 feet. Both lungs and his heart trashed.

Been thinking of a project, maybe a 264/300 RUM on a 30" bull barrel burning something just faster than charcoal (50BMG powder) in that huge case would be fun. Might be more acceptable if labeled as a 6.5/300 RUM Ha!

6.5 CM is a good round. I bought my 260 REM back in 1997. I reload so availability of ammo is of no concern. If I did not reload then I would suggest the 6.5 CM over the 260 REM Just do to availability of factory ammo.

You'd like the 6.5 AM. Based on the 338 RUM, it's a screamer.
