I have 1 just like you are looking at except barrel not fluted. Shoots very accurately and I would say the kick is similar to 270. Last fall was my first animal taken with it and that white tail knocked flat. If it were me I would grab this gun you will not be soory. In fact you will be very happy. Do not shoot it rapidly as their barrels heat up fast. Doing this should help prolong barrel life.

Recoil is about the same as a 7 Rem mag with 120s.

Five of us have 257 Weatherby semi customs. We have our own reamer and used Lilja 3 groove SS barrels. All of us use 115 Berger VLD. They are used primarily for coues wt. (which IMO is the perfect chambering for these tiny deer) Some of the kills are so fast the spotter can miss the animal dropping if they blink at the wrong time. (well almost)
To date the five of us have killed :

21 coues
4 mule deer
2 antelope (hard to get tags)
6 elk

I wore out the first barrel trying different bullets and powders. mThe count was 900 but salvaged it for another 100 or so using the 110 accubond as the bergers were unravelling in flight. Now using second barrel which should last many years into the future. Will only shoot the occasional long range jackrabbit, some LR practice and a coues wt plus antelope if a tag shows.

I had the same gun as the one you are looking at. I got rid of it because it kicked like a mule! I have always liked the .257 Weatherby and think that it is a great round. But I did not enjoy shooting that particular rifle at all. It was very accurate. But the recoil was ridiculous for a .257" cartridge. Put a brake on it and it will be fine. But the CDL you are looking at packs a lot of felt recoil, and has a lot of muzzle jump.

i guess im the minority of the crowd. I think they kick very little. much less than a 270. and ive had both. with 110 accubonds, it killed quite well for me. took a black bear at 475, a few predators and a bull elk at about 50 yds. it fell on its face, and I recovered the bullet in the offside shoulder just under the hide.

I appreciate the info guys. I think I am going to pass of the rifle. I already have magnum being built and if it's not any noticeably different killing wise than my 6.5x55 Swede I might as well stay put. I'll just take the money I was going to spend and buy more ammo

rem. action, hart barrel,#7 contour SS barrel, timmey trigger, H&S
combat stock, and cerakoted sniper grey. a

I owned one back in 01 and it kicked harder than my 30-06 off the bench. Its a laser beam but it does kick a bit, like most are saying its snappy.

Shoot my 25-06 puts mule deer down like a boss. Especially if you get into the shoulder. Behind the shoulder it just blows a egg sized hole through the lungs and they run for about 15 seconds. But get into the shoulder and it anchors them real quick. Of coarse all my mule deer kills with my 25 were 180-350 yards. I think ive killed 5 or 6 and black bear with that gun. I'd imagine the 257 which will push a 120gr. At least 200 fps faster will be about the same but capable of a little further capabilities.

Ive used factory 120 gr. Fuzions. Those blow through shoulders. Good penetration. I've used Hornady 120 interbonds. I don't think they make them anymore. They always worked good. The most recent were the 117 gr. Interlocks. That bullet really impressed me. That rifle killed 3 deer and not one took a step. Mule deer that is. Furthest one was 327 yards. The shots were out of a 26" tube at around 3000fps. Also 2 deer were head on chest shots and 1 was broadside and hit low in the sternum. Found the bullet in the hip area when cleaning. I've had deer run from my 25-06 that were lung shot. They go 50 yards or so.

Been shooting factory Weatherbys for years. The goofy M5 or signature stock configuration is not great at absorbing recoil. Roy was a marketing geniuses (not so much as a business man) and the trademark stock we all thought looked so great back in the day set his rifles apart. I shoot a 25 Bee in a Remington action and McMillan stock, no break and its a pussycat. I really noticed a difference in stocks when I switched a mostly stock 378 Bee to a McMillan stock with Kickeez pad. Prior to the stock change that 378 was one of the worst beasts I had shot, with the factory break! Worse than my 416 Bee. The stock really calmed it down. Love the 1/4 bore multiple couse, mulies, exotics and even a desert sheep. Freind shot an oryx with it. The Balistic tip has been my go to now shooting the Berger's.

I wonder if the Speer Gold Dots are a spin off from the Fuzion bullets?
