.257 Hornady A-Tip

257 A-tips, this is new. Did I miss what weight they are. If I did sorry for asking.
I like the A-tips, shoot alot of them in different calibers, but I have not shot any animals with them. A handful of guys on forums have and like the results.
So what gr. and twist. Thanks

A-tips typically don't open up. They tend to come apart inside, thus transferring more impact energy to the animal. Again, think Berger, but not quite as drastic. I have had a few "mushroom", but very few and then asymetrically. If you want a mushroom or expansion, then I would suggest going with a bonded or monolithic bullet.

I never made it to the A-Tip due to the fact the 25 Cal 134gr ELD-M's shoot so well and kill Mule deer like lightning ️. With nasty exits. I run them in a Rollin Rifle Work's 25 Creedmoor with a Benchmark 22", 1-7.5 twist. The group's pictured bellow were a couple days ago confirming my 300 yard zero and my 600 yard dope for this coming weekends deer hunting. Three shots cold bore. Javelin Valhalla Bipod and a rear bag. I'm waiting for my Silencer Co Scythe TI suppressor to get the ATF's blessing.

I also shoot the 134gr ELD-M in a 25-284 @ 3143. So the timid types on the range don't have to spend their range session hugging their comfort pets or calling their momma's because a "C" is present.

I don't have a problem with the "C," but I do with the "H."

I used the 208g 30 cal A-Tip out of my 300-416 Rigby Improved 35° and the bullet vaporised on the hide/shoulder point on a Sambar stag, the hole was almost 8" round and NOTHING penetrated past the ribs. Had to shoot a second time in the neck to kill it.

Almost as bad as a 10 yard shot from my 375 Weatherby with a 260g Ballistic Tip @ 3000fps, that hole was more than 10" round in the ham, deer died because the bullet made it to the lungs, but a LOT of damage.

If you plan on shooting animals with this bullet, be prepared is all I will say.

I think we all can remember bad experiences with bullets. I have using partitions believe it or not but I still use them. I haven't ever had a bad experience with an ELDM bullets yet but shoot enough deer with any bullet and I think you'll get one. I think those type bullets are designed for smaller deer size game not bigger. Shooting thru the ribs is where I like to shoot them and haven't ever had a bad experience.

Does the Berger hybrid penetrate more consistently than the A-Tip for you MM?

Damage is a plus to Me, it means faster death. But I dang sure want the bullet to make it inside the ribs!

Completely different bullet and results. The A-Tip is like a frangible varmint bullet.
To each his own, but I don't shoot ANY non-bonded or solid copper bullets anymore. Even my Berger's are being replaced.
