25-06 Ruger No. 1 w/ 26" barrel. 54.5 grains of H4831, Win magnum primer, Hornady brass. Muzzle velocity 3205 fps avg. Just wanted to show a recovered 115 grain Berger bullet that passed thru a coyote and hit in the soft grassy hillside immediately behind him. 908 yds. Clean through the lungs killing dog ran about 30 yds, no contact with bone. Caliber hole entry, dime sized exit. Recovered weight was 37 grains and lead fell out of jacket when I was cleaning it. I didn't open up the Coyote but the bullet was only an inch or so in the dirt so finding it was really easy. Performed well I think.

How do those bullets perform on deer? I've always shot Nosler Partition or Hornady Interlock in the past. Just decided to give these a try for a Wyoming antelope rig. It's always windy in Wyoming so you need a decent BC. Barnes and Hammer's are down in the low .360 or maybe .350's. Gonna drift off the vitals pretty quick in a 15 mph wind. It blows 20 to 30 all the time where I hunt. So it's a concern.
707, I have shot coyotes and javelina with mine. I have a .270 Wby and 7mm Rem for deer, we have some big muleys here. Azshooter on this forum has killed everything including elk with his .257 Wbys as has a couple of my friends. The 115s have always performed very well for us 80-500 yards. I try to keep all my calibers busy.

nice going....that's a long shot on a coyote. My longest on a coyote with my 25 is 630yds
As for 115 bergers....I've killed a fair amount of deer, a black bear and a Bighorn sheep with them. Their killers. Bear didn't take a step. Most deer run about 20-30 yds and pile up. Bighorn did the same.
Never lost anything and never had to trail anything

I shot a cow elk with 115gr Bergers from a 257 weatherby about 5 years ago. It was about 260 yards. The first shot was a clean double lung, but the cow didn't react like it was hit and trotted off about 30 yards and looked around. I jacked a 2nd round and hit lung and far side front shoulder on a 1/4ing away shot. She went about 10 yards and dropped.
I didn't need the 2nd shot, but I didn't know that til we found 2 entry holes in her. Neither exited. The off side shoulder on the 2nd shot though did have some.bloodshot meat. Not to bad though.
I have either shot or been there first hand for 6 berger kills. 4 cow elk, and 2 mule deer. None went more than about 40 yards after a solid hit.
That said, I will only lung shoot with Bergers. No shoulders. They are not heavily constructed and scare me on shoulders.

I really wanted to shoot them in my 257 bee,vanguard.But grouped 4-6'' worst of anything I ever tried.Barnes and NAB ,shoot 1/2 at times.So i ended with the NAB. My longest on yote was 573,it was sitting,shot w/223 69 smk.Thats a great shot .
What kind of velocity is the 257 Roy spitting them out at? 3350 to 3400? Man that's really moving!
I am not sure. I didn't have them loaded super hot. I found a load that shot really well and just used it. It would shoot .5-.75moa legitimately from a factory base series Vanguard. I didn't think it would get better so I stopped chasing loads and shot it.
I looked up some load data and its between 3150 light loads and 3300 on max loads. I think the 26" barrel on the 25-06 really helps it almost keep up with the 257 Weatherby. Usually its 150 to 200 fps slower with the 24" tube.
