25-284 Powder Ideas

Eric…here what I was using and the COAL was just over 2.8". If memory serves the 57.9 grains of H-4831SC was a bit over the book max so I'd start considerably below that and work up.

@Corvalliscory, I have a 22" 1:7" barrel on my .257 WBY and propelling the 163 Chinchaga at 2915 FPS with H1000 during my pressure testing. I have Retumbo loaded for my next range opportunity.
Yes and I went through 3 barrels on my 28 and then 30 inch 30-378. US869. What's your point about barrel burners? I competed in 600 and 1000 yards

Just bought a 25-284 on a Nesika. Couldn't pass it up for the price. Totally in the dark on brass. How do you guys make it?
I use Norma or Lapua 6.5-284 brass. Simply neck it down in a single pass. The 2 powders I've had the most success with is,
N550 and Hybrid V-100 with Remington Lg Rifle primers.
Have also had good results with Winchester LRM primers.

I started with once fired 284 Winchester brass and a single pass through the resizing die to 25-284. My powder was H-4831SC which was easier to find locally than some of the others about the same burn rate. Norma 205 was also good, but became unavailable locally. As I used my rifle for hunting and wasn't always able to recover the brass, I was able to find bags of new Winchester 284 brass and it was great for my hunting. Also 50+ years ago when I built me rifle, the 6.5-284 wasn't popular, at least I don't remember that brass option.
