25-06 with 75 Vmax.

I did try the 75gr V Max out of my factory Sendero, but was a lot happier with the 85gr or better yet 87gr sierra's with a nearly max charge of H414. I called it my step saver load cause it would reach out there a long way's and there wasn't much point in walking over to check for a pelt.

Gotta tell you tho, I agree with eaglet, that 115 looks really good. Should be getting my Sendero back any day now with a new Krieger barrel on it, so will have to try 'em all again.

By the way, the H414 works great in cold temps but has to be watched when the weather warms, probably preachin to the choir, but better safe.

Just picked up a savage heavy SS barrel 112 in 25-06. From those who shoot 25-06, What's the best bullet & powder to start with?

Sounds like 115 ballistic tips may be good. The price is right, anyway.

What else is proven & not too picky to load?

Will the berger 115 stabilize in my savage? - I don't know the twist... yet...

Depends what you want it for.

For varmints, the 85g and 100g nbt are tough to beat. I am using the 100g nbt right now at 3500fps and its simply amazing!

For coyotes, antelope, deer, black bear 115g nbt never failed me at 3200fps out to 600 yards.

I'm now on my 5th 25-06, a 24" light varmint shilen barreled 700 and it shoots lights out with 100g nbt and 115g vld's with retumbo, and pretty quick to. Am getting 3500fps with 100g nbt and 1/2 MOA out to 400 yards, and 3275fps with 115g vld's and 1/4-1/2 MOA out to 400 yards.

I had a hankering to try Retumbo out of this rifle and glad I did. Its given me about 100-150fps increase in velocity over all my other loads with other powders, and isn't giving anythign up in the accuracy department.

Virtually any powder slower then IMR-4350 works great with 100g bullets and up. The 25-06 is not a picky caliber to load for at all.

With that said, I've loaded a lot of RL-22 with the 115's, little bit of imr-4350 and h4831, with 100's i've loaded a lot of imr-4350 or imr-4831, rl-22 never did work for me with 100g bullets. with the 75g vmax, imr 4350 and 4831 were good.

I've tried pretty much every stick powder in one form or another and they all work. Just pick a couple that look good and see which your rifle prefers.
