The Eddystone is more "brittle" than the Remington and Winchester makes. It does fine with the '06 and derivatives. When you rechamber one for the magnum case, you take away more metal. Now, the Enfield barrel is a true "Model T" axle, ha. Mine was a great shooter in '06 and handloads. A gunsmith told me one of the risks in unscrewing/rescrewing an Eddystone barrel is the chance of the receiver "cracking" at the threads. I too remember before the '68 Gun control act that you could order one from several catalogs for $30, and even get them in some GI surplus stores for $25! Last one I saw in "decent" shape was around $700!
