I have a Win 70 25-06 24" factory barrel with a Leupold 4.5X14X50 scope. I want to use the 115 gr. Nosler Partition bullet. Max shots on Georgia whitetail deer will be 400 yds using a rest. Looking for information on handloads. Thanks
Homer
I have a 25-06 Sendero & in this gun I tried 115 Part. & 120
Part. My rifle favors 120 Part with a healthy dose of RL25
& chron. 3,304 FPS. I would try both bullets and I also get
great results with 115 Triple Shocks with RL22 @ 3,250 FPS.
I am confident with these bullets out to 500 yards when
shooting Whitetails/Mule Deer & smaller. The .25-06 has also
done well for Ar. Tuskers up close. Over 500 Yards I prefer
my .300 & after reading Goodgroupers results I will try
180 & 200 Accubonds for that.
rem classic 24"stock bbl my best load using 115nbt rem brass, fed gm210match,54.5gr h-4831 (my list +.5 over max)col=3.200 it just worked out best that way, crony very consistant at 3030fps.<1" @ 200yds.plenty of bullet for whitetails.
My two cents: I really like the Nosler BT in 100 grain. Over 57 gr of RL-22 I get a consistent 3400 fps. Zeroed at 250 yds, it drops about 12.5" at 400 yds. I couldn't get the 115 or 120 grainers to group very well, so I sacrificed a few hundred footpounds of downrange thump for better accuracy.
I have had great success in the past with my 1/4 bore using a Nosler 115 BT in a federal case over 56gr. RL22 w/ a WLR primer. I'm averaging 3270 fps cutting one ragged hole at 100 yd. in a 5-shot group for my hunting load. The longest shot on a whitetail with that load was 672 yd. The deer went 30 yd. and piled up deader than fried chicken. I just switched to a 115 Berger VLD for groundhogs and target shooting. This load is extremely accurate.
I'll second that of bucknutz - 54 of H4831 - you cannot get enough in there to hurt anything. It shoots fantastic. Same load can be used with the 115 Ballistic Tip. Best lengths for me are TTL - 2.484 with a MOAL or 3.245.
Good luck.
