225 ELDM TESTED 30/375 S.I.

I forgot to mention that I loaded (4) 208 ELDM's with some N570 to see where they would max out. I accidentally grabbed the hottest load the first shot at the aforementioned rock at 1604 and shot clear over the top of it. (loosened the primer too) I chrono'd the other 3 and they topped out at 3259'. I would consider max on the middle load at 3230 with 87 grs.......Rich

I shot some more 225's today because I needed an excuse to use my new ballistics app. I am still fumbling my way through the setup a little but the 225's are still shooting great as is the 30/375 S.I.

Rich,
I bought 1lb of Reloder 26 today. Did you ever try RL26 in your 375 S.I.?

I can't remember... If not, do you think it's reasonably well suited with 197gr bullets in the 375 S.I.? I'll be loading some lathe turned copper bullets, and at 197gr, thought RL26 might be a decent powder. Should have asked you before I purchased it. I thought RL33 might be a little too slow burning with these lighter bullets. Never used RL26. But I remember you've used it quite a bit in other cartridges. Thanks.

I did try a little 26 in it and I thought it worked pretty well but I had such a good load already that I didnt pursue it further. I switched to n570 with the 225's and it's awesome! I think a case full would even work with a 197. It's very dense so the case will hold a lot! You could likely run them between 3200 and 3300.

Good to know. These copper bullets are pretty long and lighter than what I've been shooting with RL33. I thought RL33 would be overly compressed and still not be able to pressure out. So I bought the RL26 on a 20% off sale today. Will let you know how it goes. I also have Retumbo and H1000.
But it will be a while as the days are short up here right now. By the time I set up, it's getting dark again.

H1000 shoots bugholes in mine but I wanted more velocity out of the 225's. I am actually shooting them faster than I was shooting the 208's with h1000. Retumbo will beat 1000 by about 50'
I really think you should give n570 a try. I shot up to 86 grains with the 225's and settled on 83 for 3050' and great accuracy. There was still capacity left at 86 so I know it's likely to work with a 197. A little spendy but peanuts compared to what we spend on everything else!

I'll keep an eye out for some N570 locally. I don't generally see it up here, and we can't order it from out of State. Maybe my brother can get some from his distributor. Thanks.

The si must be way different than mine. I maxed out around 81.5 n570 with fireformed brass. In my 24.5"bbl im estimated at 2950fps out to 800yds. With unfired brass i made it up to 83.5 i think and it shot great there. I had to drop 2 grains to maintain.

As a side note im really not a fan of this hornady brass. After 1 shot i can push the primers in by putting them on a table and pushing the brass down. This tells me its a warm load but even the unfired brass goes in almost as easy and the primers are still round as new and no ejector marks or anything.
