Well for me it was just trying to see what I could get out of a 308 win. During the powder shortage and then the primer shortage every thing gots hard to find except some of the things that just never get hard to find like a 308 and it fit the bill for a practice rifle or whatever rifle. So I shopped around and thinking about it for a bit how much can I get out of a 308. So I purchased one of the Howa's that came in a 26 inch 1/10 twist. Then I started looking at ballistic with light and heavy bullets running slow and fast and it appears if you can get a 200 or 210 high BC bullet going about 2475 to 2500 you will have more down range speed and energy for a rather longer shot on something like a mule deer or buck the wind when shoot at milk jugs at say 700 to 800 yards. So this drove me to try the heavy bullets. I just never got the magic I was looking for and coming up on hunting season I wanted to use my 308 so I grabbed some game changers in 180grain and they were pretty easy to get them to shoot. So I went those this last year but also had some 178ELDX that I threw in the mix with the same charge weight and seething depth and those shot just as good. Actually flew a little better so I will most likely dial those in for hunting. I have read and watched a few videos that the 180 game changer item number 4680 is to hard or to thick jacket and doesn't open as well for guns in the 308 and 3006 speed. They make another one that is 4681but unfortunately I had already loaded and been shooting the 4680 ones for a while. So I will probably just use the 178eldx bullets. For fun later I will grab some of the 200.20x bullets to try out.
