Hey y'all recently got a 22 creedmoor built. 18inch barrel 1-8 (supposed to 1-7 twist). Anyways already ordered some 90 a tips and I have a lot of varget powder laying around and wonder if anyone has some load data with varget and heavier bullets? I'm thinking maybe it's too fast burning should go restock on some h4350. Yes scope is not even attached.

I think your right but unfortunately I got the bullets shortly after ordering the barrel. So I'm going to try it. I'll go pick up some h4350 today. Thanks for reply!

Varget is way too fast for for a 90 gr bullet. Need h4350 or slower, I use rl26, h1000, n560, n565, n570. All have worked, the barrel twist might not work I don't know. I have absolutely no interest in shooting atips.

I'll keep those in mind if they are out of 4350. I did find a jar imr4831any thoughts on that? If I remember right that's a slow burner.

I run a 1/8" twist, and it stabilizes the 88 ELD's. I haven't tried the 90 ATip, for I think it will not work with the 8" twist. I would try a few slower powders than Varget. I run H4350, H1000, RL26 and 7828SSC.

If you run the numbers on Berger's stability calculator the 90's are down around 1.06 with an 8twist at sea level and 59degrees 3100fps. Once you start getting below about 1.20 you're gonna have some issues. I would look at selling or trading for some 80.5 or something in that area.

This is from Hodgdon's website - however, those 90gr bullets are a waste of time and powder in an 8 twist.
Trade the 90s for a bullet that you can use. Try some inexpensive Hornady 80 ELD-M bullets.
Good luck.

Agreed - sell the 90's and pick up some projectiles that will work with your twist rate. 88 ELDMs work great in my 1:8 22-250 AI. For my 22-250 AI and 22 Creed, the powders I tend to use are: RL-23, RL-26, H4831, and H4350.

Here is what the folks were trying to tell you about the 8 twist and the 90 ATip.

You would want an SG at 1.4 or greater for the project to be worth the trouble. You can see that the SG with this would run too low and you would statistically find your shots going keyhole.

While many have tried to go below an SG of 1.4, the closer you are to 1.0 the worse things get for you.

Now, run that at 7 and you would get an SG of 1.36.

Since gyroscopic stability models are really just parametric studies and not based on exact equilibrium physics, you can only use them as rules of thumb but the ground has been beaten down over many years. You can get a post where someone gets stability at values below 1.4, but you can also get reports of folks with problems at 1.3. In effect, we can say that somewhere between 1.4 and 1.0 is not where you want to be unless you are accepting the risks. Your 7 twist is right at that point where the majority of users have success and failure have been rare.

It is bullets like the 90s that are the reason for those 224 barrels to show options for 6.5 twist.

BTW, the 88 ELDM with a 7 twist is an SG of 1.4
The 8 twist with the 88 ELDM is 1.07 and also not recommended. However, even those 80 ELDM at an 8 twist are SG of 1.22 and will often not work.

We've been shooting the 80 (AMAX and ELDM) and 88's for many years in 1/8" twists without any issues.
