22-250 load

2 years ago I did some work with the 50 grain Varmint Grenade and found some real accuracy issues with them in my .223. In my 22-250 I couldn't find a load that they suggested the bullet would hold together. I loaded it light and still couldn't get consistant in my 22-250. Lost interest in the bullet as I was also finding large weight differences between them.

From my experiences I would suggest a different bullet. I fielded about 100 rounds of V-Grenade and didn't find them any more 'explosive' than the same load with a V-max.

Happy shooting.

Unless you're shooting at least a 1:9" twist barrel, the accuracy will probably not be phenomenal. I had contacted Barnes about this bullet, and they said to stay with the 36gr VG. It has to due with the length of the bullet, due to the fact it is lead free, rather than the weight.

I've always threatened to try the 36gr. VGs out of my .222 Rem., but I still haven't done it lol.

50gr VMax, 35gr Varget(37gr MAX), Nosler brass and CCI 200 primer gets 3/8in 3 shot groups out of 700 VLS .22-250 with 2.35in COL. There are a lot of powders that can take the 50gr V-Max into the factory 3850fps range. I get ~3900fps.

I tried the 36gr VG in my 1:9tw Panther Bull .223 AR and best I could do was .7in 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I get .48 - .6 5-shot groups with 40gr-75gr bullets of various breeds. That 36gr is very delicate bullet, it is about the same length as 50gr bullets. It is very hollow and thin jacketed.

I haven't given up on the 36gr, I plan on going back with Benchmark and some experimenting with shorter OAL on .223. I loaded some up in .22-250, but haven't taken them out for a test.

0.7" group at 100 yards is a varmint killer for suregun)
I would go with that! That's certainly adequate for squirell shooting in the CA Condor lead free zone, especially when afternoon coastal breezes limit most shooting to within 200 yards, give or take...

I have a 22-250 Remington 700 VS and for the life of me I could find no load for it that shot better than 1.5 MOA at 100 yds. I finally bought some 52 gr Berger Varmints and behind 33.0 gr of IMR 4895 it shoots about 3/8" groups at 100 yds. Its the first load I have been able to shoot the heads of bowling pins with at 300 yds and hit them 9/10 times. So I would suggest trying the bergers also.

Well hello everyone ,This is my first post here, But im not new to shooting,,,,,:)

Im shooting a .144" @100 yds out of my Ruger M-77 22-250 loaded w/ 39.5 gr of H-380 pushing a 40 gr Nosler ballistic tip

That's a pretty dang good group! Is this consistent, or is this the best group so far? Check out the review, lol, my rifle averages about .28" for 4 to 5 shots @ 100 yds. 33.3 grs. Varget under a 52 gr. HP Berger. Savage model 12 long range precision.

they were consistent, i worked up eight different loads and then went back up shot four more sets at 41.0 ,40.5 ,39.5 ,39.0 ,. 38.5 w/ h-380 and i wanted to double check the top 5 loads just to make sure . 41.0 g was suppose to be the most accurate through Noslers data but mine just wasent tight enough at the much grain.. 39.5 was the best , so i loaded more up and went up and shot more at 39.5 and there very consitent, and i was shooting off my dog-gone-good shooting bags to !

Thanks for the pics.

Yeah ,It's the Stainless Ruger Varmit in 223 .. I topped it with a 6x18 Leupold ,, It shoots 40 Ballistic tips real tight .

I use 36.5 grs Varget with 50 gr V-Max for 1/4" groups @ 100yds
The Varmint Granade bullets in 50 gr aren't any good at long ranges due to fliers.............I have used 36 gr & 50 gr Granade bullet and won't be using them again.
At 200-400 yds in Kansas last year they would hit on one time and up to 20' off the next with 10-20mph winds. Not so with the 40-50gr V-Max bullets.
Drift on V-Max bullets is 6" max in our observation.
We shoot 600 rounds each in one day with three calibers.
I did print so good groups @ 100 with Granade bullets, but past that I would get fair groups with fliers.
I then used Granda bullets only for close range.

Using in both Savage VLP 1-12 twist, 22-250 and Savage 110 action and VLP barrel 1-12 twist chambered in 22-250 AI.
