22-243AI vs 22 CHeetah vs 22 something else

When I had my McMillan TAC 50 I always thought about necking it down to 338 (300grain) at 4000FPS but the wife gave me that eye roll....you know, the one that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up!!lol

I have at least 8 rifles that will exceed 5000 FPS and another 6 that are well over, I MEAN WELL OVER 4500 FPS knocking on 5000 door, so yes it is possible and happen's on a regular basis. I must have 30 different calibers and I don't have anything that shoots less than 4000 FPS. Even my 223 are over 4000 FPS, apart from my 308s and 30-06 and they are in the high 3000 FPS
IE: 22-243AI, 22X55Sweede, 22-06AI, 220SwiftAI, 22-243Middlestead, 6WSM, 6MachIV, 6RUM

Dean,
thats awesome/ exiting. would you care to share your load data or components with which your Middlestead is getting 5,000? it sure would be nice to accomplish it before re-barreling it.

I get that eye roll all the time. Every time I mention one of my thousands of crazy Ideas

Half dozen one, 6 of another !!! Flip a coin. Several brass options with 284. Not sure about 6.5 PRC ?

I built a 25PRC and had thought about doing a 22PRC but thought that the diminishing return Idea would fall into place. Not real sure. I might try loading some 75 grain slugs in the 25PRC that would give me a good Idea of the speeds that I might be able to reach

I have a 22-284 I never shoot , will sell you. I got 4,300 FPS with a Barnes 35gr solid copper. But the next shot with more powder my chronograph looked like i shot it with number 8 shot. The 1-8 twist was too much for it. Shooting 75 swift at 3500 now. Shoots 69 smk at 3900.

Currently building a 25-284. Look forward to finishing it. Built for the 131 Blackjacks. Lightweight build with CFW barrel. Be my Antelope gun primarily. I think the 22-284 would be a good .224 option and can be built on a Short action.

You don't need to neck down a 50 to get 4000 FPS

This one shoots Barnes original 50 cal 300gr bullets at 4200 fps all it takes is 240gr of RL17 to do it. I know that those bullets have the lowest BC in the history of man kind, but it is still a 300gr traveling at over 4000 fps. I think of it as launching a cinder block LOL. The 450gr originals also work pretty good they exit the muzzle in the high 3000 fps.

thank you for the offer. what is it built on? I really cant afford to have more than on gun tied up for experiments right now! but I would be really interested in the build specs

I really like the 25PRC I built. only problem that I have had is I was REALLY disapointed on how it performed on antelope this year. I hung it on the wall and am waiting for Bergers new 25 cal heavy to come out in the spring.

All i have heard is the chatter on reloading groups on Facebook. somewhere I was told that they were going to come out with a 128gr +-. I hope that they do, I'm a huge fan of Berger hunting bullets. Till this year when I tried the blackjacks I hadn't used anything else in ten years.

Browning. Long. Mcm a3. Benchmark ,

I think they started on a 127 years ago but it never materialized. Maybe there making another go of it. Was suppose to have roughly a .59 BC. Sierra makes the 131 Blackjack for them.

I'm hope they make a go of it!!! I would really like to use their bullet instead of the blackjack. the Blackjack is a Phenomenal long range bullet. I just wanted something different for hunting.
