The son was shooting factory core-lokt's and the dad was shooting handloads but I don't recall the brand of bullet.

i think bullet construction has a huge impact on performance - more so than bullet diameter. Just my opinion. A true comparison would be both rifles shooting the same bullet.

I am very surprised that a 100 gr. factory cor-lokt .243 did not penetrate all the way through a little pig like a 125 pounder. That should have blasted through.
