195 grn Berger’s & 1:9 twist

Just bought my son a 28 Nosler as a graduation gift. The rifle comes with a 1:9 twist. I was planning on loading him up some 195 EOL Berger's but have had a few guys say they don't stabilize too well with a 1:9 twist? Anybody have any experience with this same set up good or bad?

I ran the 195's in a 1:9 and never had a problem. If you are worried the 180's don't give up much when driven to a little higher velocity.

Ditto. 180 Hybrid is a killer in the 28.

With a 1:9", I would run a 175 Elite/180 Hyb/184 Hyb.

I wouldn't even mess with them. The 180 VLD's or Hybrids would be SOLID. I push mine at 3150 FPS and they hammer. I also shoot the 195's, but I have a 1-8 twist.

I would shoot the 180's and not gamble with it. I shoot the 175's in a 1:9 twist and they into little itty bitty holes!

At 6,000 feet your stability factor jumps up to 1.53. So if all of your shooting is at that elevation or higher, you should stabilize those bullets fine.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

Another problem you'll run into with 195's and a Saami chamber is that you'll have to seat them very deep. Hard to get the velocity out of them when they're taking up a big chunk of space inside the case.

I ran them in a browning xbolt and never had an issue with a saami chamber and in a shorter magazine. Ran them to 3150 FPS with rl33

A buddy of mine did a 9 twist and it was a ragged hole at a hundred with 195s and a shotgun with no choke from 500 on. I told him to do 180s and wallah extra full turkey choke for a long ways.
