You're talking hunting VLDs, not target VLDs, right? I've used HVLDs on 1 elk, 3 mule deer, and two pronghorn in the last 4 or 5 years. The shots ranged from 75 yards on the elk to 400, 520, 530 on the deer and 300 and 620 yards on the pronghorn. All were one-shot kills except for the deer at 520 that I initially shot through the spine. For whitetail, I think you'll be just fine.

Been shooting the 180's for years from 7wsm, 7mag, 28 Nosler with velocities from 2900-3200 fps and always been impressed with them. I'm a devout vitals shooter until range hits about 400 yds then typically start shooting shoulders and always been impressed be it deer, bears or elk.
