Talking to a few gunsmiths I know, including Nick at straitjacket armory (who does the second highest number of proof prefits, the only company that makes more is proof themselves) they stated that proof has an extremely high ratio of slow barrels. The main reason, he said, is that their bores are almost always tight, along with having deeper rifling, if I recall correctly. This is what usually makes them slower and pressure out early. He said that they occasionally see ones that reach typical expected speeds, and very, very rarely see some that exceed typical given cartridge speeds.Interesting. My 264WMI is on a Proof barrel. It averages 3350 with 156 EOLs.
