175 gr Win silvertips for 10mm glock

The hardcast will be fine in the Glock. He won't be shooting enough to cause issues and they are much harder alloy than the lead projectiles used by bulk handgun shooters. Besides I have shot 200 lead bullets from my Glock in IDPA competitions and observed no leading.

I'll agree with those on the hardcast bullets, way better for Bear protection as you want deep penetration through heavy bone and muscle, especially on a grizzly. BuffaloBore makes a 220 grain hardcast flat nose, HSM makes a 200 grain one.
On another note, I'd recommend a Kenai Chest Holster from Gunfightersinc.com. A great way to carry a gun that you can get it it RIGHT NOW. I got one for my Ruger Alaskan and love it, as it rides up front and snug to the chest where its easily accessible.

I cast 200 gr and as far as the chest holder you can get a great one at half the cost from Paradise Valley leather here in Montana. I just had them make a chest holder for my S@W 460 XVR Mag. I use A-#9 for powder works great on heavy pills for my 10mm Kimber.

I'll check out Paradise Valley Leather, thanks.
Just spent 5 days out that way in April. Love it !

The leading in Glock polygonal barrels is a real issue. My Glock 21 barrel in .45 ACP is living proof. But I don't think sighting in the gun with some truly HARD cast bullets is going to be enough lead shooting to be an issue. If it were ME and I was carrying a Glock 20 in bear country, I'd be filling the magazine with these:

I do like the COATED lead bullets. I've been getting mine from BAYOU BULLETS out of Louisiana (they call it Hi-Tek Supercoat.) I just checked the 10mm bullets they have available and all their "heavies" (200gr) are of a round nose profile, so that isn't what I'd want for bear protection. They have a semi-wadcutter (SWC) in a 175gr which is the bullet style I'd want, but it'd be nicer to have it in the 200gr weight. Maybe you could drive the 175gr fast enough to make it a moot issue?

Simpler to just buy the Buffalo Bore load. But those COATED lead bullets have been a godsend to my shooting/reloading. Finally, no leaded up barrels. Lead is b-i-t-c-h to get out.

Underwood ammo has a 10% off sale for memorial day--bought 3 boxes of 200gr, coated, hardcast loads from them. I'll run a magazine of them in my Gen4 Glock 20 to test reliability, shoot a few FMJ loads to scour any residue out, and then load my mags back up. Waiting for my Gunfighters Inc, Kenai chest rig to ship as well.

I just got my chest rig from Paradise Valley Leather in Montana and am loving it! I hike 4 t0 6 miles every morning with my Bloodhound and wear it. Only $120 what a deal!

Thanks for the replies ! I had not been here in awhile and it was nice to see the "alert" notice and take me right to the bullet question. Would a 200 grain be a tad better than a 220 grain for a bit more speed or slower be better. We are going where the guide was mauled last year so we want the best we can get.

There are instances of the 220gr not stabilizing in factory Glocks. The 200gr doesn't give up much in performance versus the 220, so I opted for the 200, which would be my recommendation.

That guide is just looking to get back at the bear that mauled him! LOL

The 200 would probably be a better choice. You'll still get good penetration but the recoil will be noticeably less. I shot A LOT of 220gr bullets at 1150 fps as a plinking load in a GP100 10mm and the perceived recoil is more than my "walkabout" load using a 200gr bullet at 1320 fps.

Wish he could get back at him. He did not make it.
