175 ELDX H1000 and 7mm Rem Mag Help Please!!

That's some great shooting.

Putting a 7RM build together now on a Savage action, HS precision stock, Criterion 26" 1:8T Varmint contour, and will prob start load development in august. I've got norma brass, fed 215s and CCI 250s. Looking at the Eldx and M along with Berger, all 175-180 gr. Will start with RL22 and H1000.

Do you mind sharing more details on ur build? Barrel mfg, twist rate, length, etc. Any work done to the action or stock? Looks like a McMillan? Just curious what all you did.

Thanks. It's really just a budget savage rifle to tell you the truth. Here's what I've got in it.

Savage 111 Long Action (Savage 111 XP donar)
Rifle Basix Sav 2 Trigger
X-Caliber 1:8 5r twist 26" Varmint Contour Cryo Treated Barrel w/ Pepper Pot Brake (28" total length)
EGW 0 moa picatinny rail
Seekins Low 34mm rings
Burris XTR II 5-25x50 Mrad FFP scope
HS-Precision M24 Stock
Atlas bipod

That's pretty much it. I had the gunsmith set the head space a little bit on the tight side of things, and have no issues with feeding or ejecting.

Sounds good. Guessing u are happy with the X-Cal barrel then! I'm leaving the accutrigger on mine, it's a pretty decent trigger, the one I got anyway. Smith is gonna true up the action face and lugs the best he can without recutting the threads so I can still use pre-fits. Will bed it if it's needed, too. I have a DNZ 20 moa tac one-pc mount and will be mounting a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 Tactical moa/moa. Should have it back in a couple weeks, will share picks if interested. Thanks for the info on load development, i will probably start with H1000 and the 175 ELDX.

Yep I really like the X-Caliber barrels so far. I also have a 24" barrel from them in 7 SAUM. It's a shooter too, and I'm still playing with it and the 162 ELDX. It seems to be just as capable as the 7 mag.

With the 180 Berger I went with 67.5gr H1000 for 2920fps, just shot a 2.2" group at 450 yards with that combo. With the 180 ELD-M I went with 65.0 and get 2830 and an extremely accurate fire forming load with new nosler brass

I've been stalking this thread and wanted to thank you guys for the good info. I have a Savage 116 that I built from a 30.06 into a 7mm rem mag. It has a 26" McGowen barrel with a 1 in 8 twist.

It loves the loads that I loaded with Hornady Brass, 69.0 grains of H1000, 175 eld-x. CCI Magnum #250 primers, and coal of 3.400" (.022" off lands).
Ended up at 2960 av fps
21 e.s. and 7 s.d.

Went as high as 3020 fps average with no pressure and 69.5 of H1000 but my group was terrible so I backed it back down to 69. Groups consistently under half minute with the 69 grain load.

Thanks again guys.

That's good info to have. Finally got the chance to get to the range with a fresh Savage 7RM build for barrel break in. No load development yet, but going to play with an open container of Retumbo before cracking into the H1000. Here is a pick. Break in with cheap federal loads is extremely promising. Sorry pics are crap...

69 grains of H1000 used to be my go to load with the 168 gr berger vlds. I'm only using 66.6 grains of H1000 now with the 175 eldx, and averaging right at 3000 fps. I guess the longer barrel, and the cryo treated barrel really do give you a little more fps. Brass life seems like it's going to be really good too. I've got 3 reloads on this new norma brass now, and the primer pockets are still going strong.

Haven't shot the rifle past 500 yards yet, but I've got enough rounds down the barrel to almost call it broken in. I'm going to put another 100 rounds through it this weekend, and try to stretch it out to 1000 yards. I'll post some pics after this weekend, if all goes as planned.

I shot at 100, 453, 642, and 860 for trajectory validation with perfect hits each time. I didn't have time to do a group at distance, but if it groups similar to what it does at 100 yards, it'll be better than half a minute. That's basically as good as I can shoot anyway.

I'll try to get a picture of the group or phone scope video it when I take it out next.

Fancy toys Powell!

Well I got the 7 mag and the 7 saum out to 1010 yards this weekend again. I am super pleased with both rifles. 10 for 10 shots out of both rifles at 1010 yards, and a 12" target. I thought I took a picture of the targets, but it's not in my phone, so you'll have to take my work on it. :(

Taking both rifles to Idaho in 2 weeks, for a backpacking mule deer hunt with my little brother. Hopefully I'll have some deer pictures to share when I get back. Here's a few pics until then.
