165 gr matrix load for 270 wby mag!!

Going to try some more loads this week end. I have 69.5,70,70.5,71,and 71.5 loads of H1000. Hope to find my max load. and get the speed I want. 3000 or above will do just fine in my rifle. In fact 3000 shoots about the same ballistics as my 150 bergers at 3150.
I have a swarovski Pv 4-16 x 50 with the tds-4 reticle. I have been shooting 71g of h1000 with the 150 bergers. Just not getting the wound channel i want out of the 150's. Got several buddies shooting the 168 bergers in 7mm and they are awesome!!!

What kinda wound channel are you looking for?

One that leaves a nice blood trail. The 150's don't some of the time. The 168 7mm's do every time.

Ok shot the other test loads. Got up to 3000 fps but The groups started opening up after that. Looks like 69 or so is going to be the max for h1000 in my rifle.

Just wondering if anyone had a favorite powder for the 165 matrix in a 270 Wby. Please let me know. Thinking about trying something new!!!

Like bigngreen said about 3100 fps out of a 270 WSM w/ the 165 Matrix using 68 gr Retumbo powder. I would think you should be able to up that by a fair amount but be careful

To resurrect an old thread...

Finding info for a 270 Wby shooting a 165 Matrix is difficult...

However...I have had over 3300fps with the 165 Matrix out of the 28" Benchmark barrel, 1/9 twist. Not very good groups...1.5" with a sticky bolt lift.

The bullet settled down around 3225fps in my rig...shooting fireformed and neck sized brass with H1000.

In my gun I had a magazine length of 3.36" I touched the lands at 3.4" with the 165 Matrix. I do not think that I have the .378 Weatherby "standard" free bore...

Might try a slower powder...

I am using 73 grains of h-1000 with the 165 with a off the shelf accumark @ 3050 fps but mind you that is a hot load as this rifle shoots the 150 bergers with h-1000 74 grains @3250 also very hot load . But if you can find vv n-560 it works even better

Thank you for your response...

You have no idea with the "flowing" brass that I have had sticking my ejector plunger...:)
as I "explored" what was too hot...I have had over 3300fps with the 165s...

I have shot the 150 Matrix RBT bullets at close to 3500fps with IMR 7828ssc. The bullet was accurate at the higher velocities.

Your hot loads with H1000 and the 165 Matrix are close to mine...

Nice bullet and kudos to Matrix for making such a nice bullet for the 6.8mm...

I'll second that. I am very impressed with the Matrix samples I received for the 26-Nosler variants.

I have 3 165s left over from 277/26-Nosler testing. I'm gonna through a load for the 270Wby with them.:D
