I have two .280 Rems that are very respectable shooters with H4831sc, 140 gr Accubonds at 3040 fps. with 26" barrels. I decided to give 160 gr. Accubonds a try last weekend. Worked up to 58 gr. of IMR 7828ssc, WLR primers, Nosler brass. 20 thousandths off the lands. Brass, primers and depth the same as my sub 1/2" 140 loads. At 100 yds, the 160s grouped pretty close to where the 140 loads are set. After getting good chrono readings and an E.S. of 5, I shot some 5-shot groups with both rifles (both Browning X-Bolt SHOT specials).
These are the first loads I have tried with Redding S full length dies, then neck sizing to .003 neck tension with the Lee collet die. I always had an E.S of low 20s with standard full length sizing and an expander ball, so was in hopes of getting my ES down. I am very happy with an ES of 5. I did not mess with the scope dials, so the groups are where the scopes were set for the 140s. This load will hopefully give me another 100 yds for elk and 200 yds for deer over the 140s... once I stretch the legs to confirm. So far, I am pleased. Groups were shot with a 12-15 mph 90 degree side wind. Not as great as some of you paper punchers, but an acceptable hunting accuracy IMO.
