The .277 cal. 150 B-Tip is a decent bullet and if you put it between the shoulder and the diaphragm no elk will live to tell the tale. The B-Tips of the 90s maybe not so much, but the hunting B-tips now-a-days have been improved and perform nicely.
in certain situations a Barnes or another monometal would be best for elk, but not always!Barnes or another quality monometal is best for Elk.

There is and old handload recipie for the 270 win with a 150gr Nosler partition and imr4831 that is supposed to be serious elk medicine that the old timers used. So I'd try the Partition, I would not use a ballistic tip on elk. Use a good controlled expansion bullet. They wouldn't be my first choice for Elk. I would go with a Nosler Partision or some sort
of bonded bullet.
