I just had to do one of those "proud Dad" posts. :)

I went out to my range today to do some load testing and took my 13 year old daughter along. She has been wanting to try one of Dad's "big guns" at 1000 yards so I gathered up some fireform loads I was shooting last week at my 1000 yard gong.

She has been shooting small bore and muzzelloaders in 4-H for a few months and has gotten pretty good with the .22. She has never shot any of my big guns though.

The first shot out of my .338 Khan was a miss (worried about recoil I think), but then she settled down and put 2 in a row on steel. (the rest of the hits were from last week)

Now she can't wait to see the boys in her 4-H club and brag about being a 1000 yard shooter. :D gun)

My boy is 8 and is going to shoot in 4H. I let him shoot one of my guns when he was 7...he loved it. Of course it was a 308 with a break. I didn't want to pick him up off the ground.
Thanks for the incentive, before long, don't be surprised if she wants one built for herself and the inevitable happens. She shoots better than dad!

Great job!

Great story, you should be proud!!

Can't wait to get my little girl out this year. She won't be 3 until march but I'm thinking its time to go ahead and get her that .338 Edge I've been dreaming about!:D

The 4-H Shooting Sports program is great for kids. I'm sure your son will enjoy it....... almost as much as Dad! One great thing about getting the kids involved in shooting sports is gives a great excuse to buy more guns.:D

There is little doubt she will be shooting better than Dad before long. I am already having trouble maintaining my unbeatable status when we are shooting silhouettes with .22s. :)

She needs a "One Shot One Kill at a Thousand Yards" Tee Shirt. Her dad needs a bumper sticker to that effect for whatever vehicle you drive to drop her off at school too... .:D

Congrats to both you and the kid and your gun builder.

Very cool...my 14 year old would love to wear that T-shirt...but he'd get suspended from School for wearing it! It's a strange weird world we live in...God forbid you even mention War or Religion in School...but I'll shut this down...if I get started I'll have a bad day thinking about it.

Looks like you're a proud Dad...which is very cool!

Matt

If I'm not totally mistaken those top two were my last two shots from the other day. That's a major blow to the ego getting out shot by a little girl... thanks!:D

That's good stuff! You said she doesn't play around.

Hmm well maybe just take a good picture of the target and get someone to transfer it to the tee shirt with the caption.. . "My 1000yds Target"... gun)

The only problem is that it'll attrack boys like us!

Thanks for all the kudos guys, it's fun to watch the kids learn to do the things we like to do and enjoy it.

Wild Rose, I like your tee shirt idea! I may have to work on that. My daughter is home schooled so I don't have to worry about that. It might be interesting to see what kind of looks she might get walking through Wal Mart. :D

Around here in small town Arkansas it would probably be "hey where did you get that shirt?? I want one!"
