I put a Hogue rubber on my two 48s to fix the "too slim feel"
Palmetto State Armory has 15 round mags for the 43x/48 that is a combination of polymer and steel….but they are so popular they're always sold out…so I have gen 1 Shield mags, never had a single hitch…
Short story…. I had several custom tricked out 1911s (Pin guns by Clark and Wilson virtual tight tack drivers)…I bad mouthed Glock plastic junk…bought a Gen 2 G21 for $150…Brother, this plastic bastard shot as well as the custom steel…I was stunned….

KKM barrels is located in my town and Kevin gave us locals deep discounts…I have at least a dozen Glocks with Kkm barrels, heavy springs, real sights …There's Sig and Smiths and Rugers in the safe.
The Glocks are the only things that get triggered.

I'll have to check into the Hogue grips for the 48. I've never have had a Mal function with the Sheild mag either. Very well made. I love my Palmetto State AR10. Whatever that has to do with it
I like my Springfield Hellcat and Sig 365 9mm's a lot also. I carry those . Used to carry the G48. Then Kimber Ultra Carry 45. It's heavy and only 8 rounds. Now mostly just carry the Hellcat with 17 rd. mag and one in the pipe and a spare 17 rd. mag with Win. Silver tip 147 gr. I really like my G20 and 21 but like the grip on the XDM 10mm better. I duct tape the grip safety when taking it hunting.

A lot of folks are carrying 10mms for bear guns these days and I've always said that the best gun for a gunfight is the one you have with you.... however... I'm not a big fan of the 10 muther-muther or any auto stuffer as a bear gun. With good ammo I think the 10 is capable, but marginal when you have a choice on how much of an advantage you want over your adversary. Everyone mentions capacity as the big advantage. When I worked for S&W I called on the Alaskan State Troopers on a regular basis. Info from them indicated that the average potential bear meal, ( person) only gets off 2 to 3 rounds during an attack. They felt, as I do, that an operator induced stoppage has a high potential if a bear knocks you to the ground and it becomes a close-in hand to hand combat situation. A stoppage on any auto loader would be hard to clear with one hand because the other is stuffed halfway down a bear's throat. Revolvers can certainly malfunction but the most common, which is a failure to fire is easily remedied by pulling the trigger again. Also, contact shots or a bad grip will not induce a malfunction with a wheel gun. Just my 2 cents , but I think I'm going to stay with a big magnum revolver for my back country bear gun. Randy Garret (the old owner of Garret Ammo), proved a long time ago that a heavy for caliber (320 grain) .44 bullet with a big meplat @ just under a 1000 fps will shoot completely through any bear alive at just about any angle. I've killed several large boar and a bison with that load and always had complete penetration, even on a double lung shot on the bison.

I used Garret ammo until I started casting my own.Learned how to get the right mix and hardness and have shot completely through a huge wild boar from front to rear with one of mine in 10 mm.I still load for 44 mag but I have been face to face with a grizz and want a little more than 6 shots.
Just my opinion and if I die tomorrow I'll die with my own opinions.Hope it don't offend you

As you have said, I've never had a problem with my G48, of course, the only thing on it that's Glock is the name, and it shoots up a storm with first Gen Shield 15+1 mags I'm not a big fan of Glock I only have two the G48 and G20SF both I find quite useful, but... the G48 I really like. My 1911 Colt Combat Elite .45 ACP has never failed me, on or off duty when I was on the job. Cheers

If your life depends on it, you should use/carry what you have faith in at that crucial moment. I have .44 mag and larger revolvers, but if I were going to hunt in bear country, I would carry my G20 loaded with appropriate ammunition.

That's just what I would depend on, but not the same for everyone…

I feel the same. I've never carried my 460 S&W XVR or Ruger Super Redhawk 454 just because of weight , recoil and number of rounds. Thought about my Super Blackhawk 44 mag. Not heavy. But 6 rds and single action. I guess I could fan the trigger though. I've carried a 10mm the last 5 years in griz counry. Thought I was going to have to use it last year opening day deer season in the North Fork. I told story somewhere here. Pepper spray in left hand and 10mm in right. At 24 yards.

I'm a big 45 acp 1911 fan and collector. The Kimber was a investment I picked up at a show couple years age , I've come to like it and shoot it on occasion but it's not my favorite

Being I was on a M1A1 Abrams. Our personal weapon was a 1911 in 45 acp. Now had it been the Glock. I bet I would have become accustomed to liking the feel more. I was also the company armorer. I had to handle these a lot. And you know when your bored sitting in a tank. You tend to find something to keep you occupied. Lol And when at the ranges I never really needed to do much when the company was qualifying. It was usually shooters error. I was always amazed at how well these things shot given the amount of slop in the fit from the slide assembly to the receiver. We were the first company to get the Beretta in boot camp at Ft Knox. They were considered the cats meow at that time. Did not really get much trigger time with them. Just qualify on the range. And the usual assemble & disassemble, functions test.

I just bought a Lee double cavity mold for thier 175. Gr. bullet. It had a decent flat nose in it. Got a lyman sizing die also. I'm going to get the RCBS 200 gr. double mold also. I can't believe how much RCBS molds are now. I hard cast for .45 auto , 45 LC, 44 mag, 9mm, 357, 22 and 308. I haven't down it in about 10 yrs. Got all my stuff ready. I was hoping to find a gas checked 10mm in 200 gr. or heavier. Never did.

I have a not so stock Colt Gov. 1911 and two Kimbers. To me and I know others , nothing feels better (grip) in my hand than a 1911.

I enjoy casting as well.I started coating my cast bullets and don't have to use gas checks anymore.
If you don't coat your bullets be sure to slug your barrel and size .001 to .002 over slug size and you won't get much if any leading.
I have used Powder Coat and there is a coating with Epoxy but can't remember where I got my last bottle.
Getting old sucks as I have to write everything down or it is like the old movie,Gone With The Wind!

Thats the one memtb told me about.Got it but had several surgeries since and have not used it yet but a super mold.
Priced very well.You need to check them out.

I really need to knock the dust of off mine and cast a bunch of 430's for my 45-70 and 400's for my 460. A few pounds of each should keep me happy for a little while! memtb

I got a .401 mold. I still have cast bullets I made when I was a kid I watched a video on coating bullets. I might look into. Tell me about writing things down... and do it right then or you forget what it was that you were going write down.

I'm a 10mm addict! Well on top of many other whiskey borne decisions, lol. I have a G20 SF, I purchased used for a great price. Had the slide done by Zev, KKM precision barrel, custom porting, and the grip redone by Danger Close armory (grip reduction, beavertail addition). Very accurate compared to the factory barrel, and no slide bite like regular Glock grip. I prefer 1911/2011's these days, and that Tisas 4.25" single stack is such a damned good value. My only issue with the Tisas is the stiff mag release (I replaced the spring with a Wolff reduced power, now it's awesome). I have not had a single malfunction in 800 rounds. I also have a Springfield XDM 3.8 10mm. I don't like it. First 300 rounds, constant malfunctions. Now that it's broken in better, it's function properly, but the grip is just not for me. I'm going to reduce it and stipple it myself to see how that goes. Also have a 2011 race gun that is getting finalized by D2 in Pennsylvania.

If you do go G20...I suggest the SF, go MOSS, and honestly, I'd skip the barrel porting, as it makes extraction a little finicky (gotta swap to lower weight recoil spring, and a lighter striker spring (which can cause light strikes). Pop for a KKM barrel, and let me tell ya, it blows away Lone Wolf barrels (I have both).

I used to like doing it. I think it's been at least 15 years since done come to think of it. I still have quite a few od different Calibers all sized and lubed. I just needed a 40 cal mold.
