10 Days DIY, EXO K4 5000

Managed to make a 10 day DIY trip work out of an EXO K4 5000 pack. Longest trip I've done, the ~5 miles in with a 100 or so pound pack (camp + front loaded food) was not fun!!

Nice setup. I'm ordering a 2200 or a 3600 here next week after I talk with them again.

Go with the 3600, they compress nicely and it's easier to have more room and need less that the other way around.

I've had my 3600 k4 for a year now and really really like it.

4elk packed out, three antelope, and a deer.

Not the OP, but here is my ultra-nerd'd out 8-day backcountry gear list/breakout for my 2024 elk hunt in BC out of my Exo K4 5000. No suppressors allowed in CA, so the TBAC Ultra 5 obviously stayed home on this one

No luck! We chased elk for 5 days in the Bitterroot and 5 days in the CDA Mountains. Saw 2 mountain goat, 1 bull moose, 2 cow moose, 12 elk total, 1 cinnamon phase black bear, 1 skunk, and ran into 1 grizzly on the trail all while completing 41 miles of hiking total. Was not able to turn up a bull I wanted to shoot, though. Definitely not for lack of effort or finding them.

Not one bit! The thing is just perfect and I for sure pushed it hard.

Haha yeah, keep the bear bag with food external till I get in. That load shelf is handy!

I can put one together and post here, I'll get back to you. I'd like to maybe even post a season review of the gear I bought and used for this year, well see.

It's why I have the 7200. I like all my gear to fit in the bag. So the meat can go in the load shelf.

Point was, your 2 days in to a 10 day hunt and you kill a bull… you're making an additional trip you don't need to. Imo.

You're making that final trip regardless to break down and pack out camp most likely.
