1-12 twist 223

62 is probably about it. I shoot the 55 in mine and it does well on varmints. Prairie dog at 360 yds last week.

Mine falls apart at 62grn. Shoots 50-55grn amazing. 62 grain bullets hit sideways at 100 yds.
Yeah, my varmint REM 700 (26" bbl) won't shoot the 62 well either but not sideways. Just not good (at all) accuracy. Figuring sideways was next though!!

I just take the 12 twist for what it is and shoot the 55s for small varmints. But I have killed 200 lb hogs and some yotes with them.

How heavy of a bullet can o go with the 1 and 12 twist?
Its not about weight but about length. One can easily stabilize a 63gr Sierra SMP in a 1-12tw, for I even shoot those from a 222Rem with a 1-14tw, and I have shot a lot 65gr flat base SP's from my 1-12tw 223's. Some claim they have stabilized the Speer 70gr SMP in their longer barreled 1-12tw 223's with max loads. The faster you drive them, the more RPM's for stabilization.

Back in the 90's, we played with powdered Tungsten swaged as the bullets' core, and we could form 75gr bullets that would stabilize in a 1-12tw.
