28 nosler redding neck die shaving brass.

Thank you for doing the experiment, that's what was hoping it would show.

How far "down" is the expander?
I didn't measure. Redding emailed me right back and said send it in with a few pieces of fired brass, so I packaged it all up and have it ready to go.

I'm impressed with Reddings communication. I'll keep everyone updated.

After I talked to Lance a few years ago, I started using the 3 in 1 cutter also. Haven't had any issues since. This is my "L.E. Forster" Frankenstein cutter.

.270" i.d. .306" o.d. without expander.

Expander measured. 283".

I think it's just too sharp of an edge machined inside of the die. Here is a picture of my de-burr and chamfering before running it through the die.

I have 11 other calibers worth of dies, reloaded thousands of rounds, and have never had this particular issue.

I wonder if they slipped you a 27 Nosler neck die?
.270" ID is .014" neck tension! That would even be a lot for the 27 Nosler, at .007" neck tension unless you are running a .275" expanding ball.
In my Redding FL bushing die for my 28 Nos, I am running a .312" bushing for ADG brass and it gives me .003" neck tension.
