6.5PRC, 6.8 Western, 7SAUM

..how about NONE OF THE ABOVE !!! A plain Jane ho-hum .270win or .280rem will do anything those fly by nighters will do with ZERO ANIEXTY or MENTAL ANGUISH....Casings and components will always be available long after your search for the other 3 ended in disappointment for the hundredth time....why go nuts for 100 fps, life's too short....
Sure, sure. But it's his money we are spending…🤣
Besides, I'm guessing Henry Ford had a Frank tell him the same about his "horseless carriage"😉 and look where we are today. Mine had has touch screen controls…

Cause we can and life is short lol.

6.5 PRC is what I'd do. 147 ELDm will kill whatever you want it to. Lapua brass, more pleasant to shoot, more factory ammo availability.
I have a 6.5 PRC currently and I'm planning to build a 7 SAUM this time around. The 6.8 Western is a super close comparable (definitely some cool factor). I hunt deer and elk here in Montana and those rounds just offer a little more oomph to reach out for that harder elk shot when you need it. I do like the light recoil of the 6.5 PRC (a lot) but I had a couple potential shots on elk this year that I definitely would have preferred the 7 SAUM/6.8 W for instead of the 6.5 PRC. It gives you just a little bit more range and energy. They all shoot pretty flat which is good. If I didn't also hunt elk I'd rebarrel my 6.5 PRC with another. And I wouldn't get another but my PRC is getting close to the end of life. It is an awesome cartridge.

Whatever lets you practice and get confident in your shot gets my vote. Have fun and good luck!

Maybe a 7 SAUM would beat out a PRC on external ballistics but I have a hard time seeing how a 6.8 western would pushing lower BC bullets at similar or slower speeds vs the 6.5 PRC.

sincerely doubt that 6.5 PRC ammo and brass is ever going to not be popular and in stock. I've shot several 6.5 PRCs along with my 7 SAUM and I have no anxiety or mental anguish, so I'm sorry if you have to endure all that anxiety and anguish! :)

Good to know. Thanks for the feedback. I thought they would be more of a step up but sound similar.

It won't but they are close.

I don't understand the fascination with the 6.8W.

I think that the 6.8 Western pushing 170 gr Accubonds have a BC or 0.620 while the 6.5 140 gr has a BC of 0.509. The 170 gr bullets out of the 6.8 Western have a muzzle velocity of 3020 fps and 2835 ft pounds of energy. From what I can find the 6.5 PRC 140 gr appears to have a muzzle velocity of 2900 fps and 2614 ft pounds of energy. Bullet drop for the 6.8 Western with a 200 yard zero is 6.4 inches, the 6.5 PRC is 7.0 inches. This info is derived from Winchester/Browning since they are the only ones making 6.8 Western ammo, The 6.5 PRC comes from Nosler.

Gentlemen, you may draw your own conclusions. :)

What is the bc on a Berger 6.5 long range hybrid or just a hybrid?

I really can't emphasize enough about the saum. This rifle is 27" Brux Barrel. I took it to 1 mile on this trip. Hitting my center of rock on first cold shot and the next three after that with 195's at 2,980 fps on a long throated chamber and long action. All the cartridges you mention can't compete with it. At the NRA Whittington center I was printing 3 shot groups at the 1,128 yard target 3" consistently. I have taken it to 2,440 yards at the blue steel ranch hitting 12" groups on early morning shoots. Same rifle. Same bullet. Haters don't say "you can't get that kind of speed out of it". BS you can I do it on 3 rifles so please don't give me that crap. Sorry for the rant ahead of time.

It would take a 30 cal 245 Berger to beat it with a lot more thump
