6.5-284 Which bullet for Hunting?

One more question, to what range do you consistently shoot to at this time?
Not sure on the state. We are in the beginning stages of planning but my friend has been doing most of the research. It's his trip. I was just invited to tag a long. I lost my access to shoot longer than 600 yards but at 600 this 6.5 is boring accurate. By that I mean we set up a line of clay pigeons and then just run right down the line at 600 yards with it. I used to shoot out to about 850 pretty regular.

Hello all. I'm running a Savage Long Range Hunter in 6.5-284. Years ago I worked up a load with Nosler Ballistic Tips 140's and it still shoots that load great, but I'm planning to go on an antelope/ mule deer hunt next year and I thought about working up a higher ballistic advantage load. I'm looking at the Berger Elite hunters 140's. Is there another bullet that you'd reccomend ? What about loads with the 140 elite? Any pet loads? Also what about the 143 ELDX? I have 200 of those to try on hand. How do those work on game? And I have 200 140grain Amax on hand too. Thanks in advance.

Here's the rifle and some 3 shot groups with the Nosler load.

Then the stock started to peel. So I removed all the rubber coating and painted it.

Then savage kindly offered to send me a brand new accustock for it.

You have the 143 ELD-X, give them a try. If they don't group like the Nosler, stay with the Nosler. I use the 143 ELD-X in a 6.5 RPM and it has worked well. I have used Nosler BT in other rifles with no problems. If I get a combo with any good bullet to shoot like the groups you are getting it's time to call it a day and go hunt.

You have a good load for the 6.5x284 and great groups. Stick with works.
Using a 142 gr SMK with H-4350 or H4831C.
If you can find the SGK 140gr #1730 you may be impressed. Accurate and Deadly! 1:8 twist. That is what we use in our .260rem.
In our 6.5X284 that is for "F" Class with SMK 142.
What is your twist? you can bump it up to the Berger 156gr, but you have to have a fast twist for that bullet and a LA.
If I were you, I would not change a thing with your loads 140gr.
All the bullets you have would be good for hunting Speed Goats to elk.

I'm moving away from ELD-X and from even Accubond. I shot a 230 ELDX in a 338 Win mag for several years. The devastation on even whitetail and smaller was incredible. However, so was the amount of metal in the meat. I had shots on whitetail at around 150-250 where the bullet didn't even exit on quartering away. I am moving to all copper as I run out of lead. The first I moved over was my 6.5 Addiction, which is pretty close to a lighter 6.5-284. I'm running the 127LRX at 3030.

I use 156 Berger and RL26/Fed 210M/ADG in 6.5 PRC. Funny, just a week ago I was writing down serial numbers, models, descriptions, scopes, etc. for my rifles, pistols ans shotguns. When I took the Cooper mod. 52 6.5x284 something made me check it out. I hadn't used it since 2019. I kept in front of safe so I could work on a load for it. I'd only shot factory HSM 140 Bergers and Norma 156 Oryx out of it. 2019 killed a whitetail doe with 156 Norna and a doe lope with HSM 140 Berger. I have a lot of different 6.5 bullets . Lots of different powders mentioned. My new task. Revive the 6.5x284.
😁👍🏻

I would not worry about metal in the meat . if you hit in the Boiler Room there should be not be metal in the MEAT front shoulders unless quartering away.

This in a suggestion the OP, Try SGK, but you already have enough 6.5 bullets to last you more Game than you can shoot!!!
Good luck, Happy Hunting and Be SAFE!!!
Send pics of game taken.
