I'm selling this almost perfect rifle in a Foremost 6400. Also known as a Savage 340. The Foremost brand was available at J.C. Penny's in the 1960's.
Is it rare? Yes. Is it collectable? To some, maybe.
It is in fact serial #1 of the Foremost 6400. I've researched and cannot find anything on these rifles in print. I also called the historians who handle the Savage records going back into the 1800's. They have nothing on the Foremost brand. I did find the catalogs on Savage shooters forum and cant open the ones prior to 1969. I'll try again and see if they fixed it.
The only mark on the stock is on the left side of the butt, very very minor imperfection. You can only see it in perfect lighting which I tried to show.
This rifle has never been hunted with, no swivel studs mounted and probably sat in a safe it's entire life. I've had it for about a decade. The blueing is lightly rubbed in a few places, notably on top of the barrel where it sat against the safe's rest.
