Backfire Recoil Pad

If it is effective as Limbsaver then it is good to know that we have another option on the market. Which do you like better overall and is it worth the cost difference?

Some of you guys slamming Jim and/or his content; I'm curious who you do approve of and what it is about Jim that you don't like?
I've never found anyone I totally agree with, but Ron Spomer, Backfire, Paul Harrel, and lately, Elevation Rifles are some that I generally respect as far as thier honesty about "thier" opinions.

A year ago he didn't know which end the bullet came out of. Now he's a world renowned expert on all things rifles and hunting. He's a marketing guy, that figured out a way to make money off clicks. His overpriced Limbsaver works, well, about the same as a Limbsaver.
Considering his channel's been around for a decade, I presume you were being a little dramatic.
Ten years ago, I didn't know what I do now about ballistics and long range shooting. So at what point are you considered "expert" enough to share your opinions?

Might want to go check your math.

The only issue I have ever had with Limbsaver is they will melt. But they are dern good pads. I prefer Pachmayr SC 100 on my shotguns. Limbsaver or Pachmayr decelerator on rifles. Kickeez gets honorable mention. Never heard of Backfire.
Actually did a recoil pad trial for a young girl with Scoliosis that shot on my youth sporting clays team. Out of Limbsaver, Pachmayr, and Kickeez the Limbsaver won hands down. No bruising.

Be sure to never use mosquitoe repellent containing Deet around a Limbsaver or anything else made of plastic, rubber or anything painted. It really will melt that stuff.

I am beginning to think that I am the only one here to use both the Limbsaver as well as Backstop recoil pads. They both work equally well but my vote goes to the backstop. This is simply because as far as I know...it doesn't melt and has the nice cover that prevents the actual pad from deteriorating while sitting in the gun vault over the year. So all you boys can argue all you want, but I have decided that both are equally as good absorbing recoil, but it's up to you to figure out whether the added cost of the Backstop is worth it to you. My vote is yes, but it won't stop me from using a Limbsaver for certain applications.

South Carolina heat can do it to a Limbsaver left in the truck. The Kickeez will take a seat if left a long time in the gun cabinet. I used to store them laying down or barrel down in a case

Totally different topic but the arm rubbers on a Mec skeet machine will do the same thing. They either dry rot or turn to a putty like substance in our cycles from heavy dew at night to extreme daytime heat.

I have them both as I stated on the first page of this thread. They both are effective and I can't tell the difference.

So how would you rate the screwdriver-ready aspect of the backstop? If that's really true and it works okay, sounds way easier than grinding.

Well so far, I have unscrewed the OEM recoil pad and simply screwed on the Backstop. No special installation and no grinding required. If I had to put a number on it, 10 out of 10, perfect fit. Also keep in mind that they are not yet available for all rifles.

oh of course not, but if the concept is there and working, it seems pretty solid as an option. I bought a grind to fit job for a stock I was building and it just made me mad.

To the folks who want to cry foul on BF: I too am a Utah resident and I'm sickened daily by what passes for intellectualism and success around here... and I'm laughing my pantalones off at anybody so bored that they have a problem with Jim. Sorry. He's sincere, and he doesn't need to do what he's doing. He found a way to pay for his hobby by talking about his passion... just like we all would and just like every other gun writer in history who is a former wannabe. Spomer, Zumbo, keith, Rinella, etc. I don't love every single thing he says, but the quality and legitimacy of his work far outweighs anything I disagree with. He actually tells and shows, he actually buys the stuff to review and test, unlike the sea of guntubers wearing hats and sunglasses in their basements. The guy can afford to buy Razors and throw them in his pool but he's hunting with an 800 dollar burris RF bino because he likes it. I dunno. There's actual problems in the world.
