That is not an apples to apples comparison like you think it is.
A 338 has much heavier and higher BC bullets than 30 cal, drop doesn't matter, it is bucking the wind that counts for ELR.
I have my 300-416 Rigby Improved 40°, it propels 230's well into 3300fps, but for me, this is still limited to 1600 metres (1 mile). The reason is wind drift, nothing else.
A 300 PRC is no 2000yrd gun, if it is, then so is any other SMALL cartridge starting at 6.5mm, which has some of the highest BC bullets out there under 30 cal. It does not make them a 2000yrd cartridge/bullet in my experience, great to a 1000, good to a mile if pushed fast enough.
Supersonic flight is nothing without wind bucking ability…
