458 SoCom AR

I like the 458, love the 375

Built the 458, 375 and 358. If I was going to build one again, it would be the 375. Unless he plans on running heavy subsonics, the 375 will do everything he'd want.

Go over to the 458 Socom forums, those guys have a ton of information on every variant, every know issue and every known solution.

There are barrels to avoid, the biggest issue is that some manufacturers completely remove the 6 O-clock lug in the barrel extension creating one wide smooth ramp, that puts more stress on the remaining lugs.

It's not a cheap to run chambering, be prepared for deep empty pockets.

It's a great choice for quite a few scenarios, unless you have the poors like me 🤣

not gonna lie, i'm jealous you got a 358 socom. i wanted one to go along with my 358win AR10. by the time i got the coinage to get one he no longer had them up for sale. been debating on reaching out to him and seeing the best route to go or see if he had a barrel tucked back somewhere.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I actually have a couple of 21" Lightweight 358 SOCOM barrels left in stock.
They are not on the website.

Just give us a call if you want one. Last time I checked, CH4D had 358 SOCOM dies in stock.

oh man oh man. thank you good sir. i'll give you a shout monday

Got a question. I'm thinking of getting a 458 socom upper for my son (he thinks it would be cool, espically if DAD does the reloading). What is the difference between some of the uppers I've see for about $400 and a Wilson upper at about $1,000? Any advantage with the Wilson? I've had a Wilson Combat 45 and it was tremendous as far as working, looks and finish.

name is the biggest dollar difference! the material used can change the amount also (6061 or 7075). 7075 will typically cost more. if you buy parts to build yourself make sure about the port size so it will eject.

Tromix, Tromix, and only Tromix. They developed the round along with Marty. They are very reasonable and will definitely work. Too many companies think that since they can put together a 5.56, they can do a 458 SOCOM. Not so, butchered barrel extensions and bolts are the most common issues resulting in feeding and extraction issues. Go to the source and don't look back. Awesome fun to shoot by the way!!

Thanks for the help, link and information.

We will probably do an AR10 someday too for something else he dreams up. We did his first build in 6mm ARC last year and it was great. Now he wants a big bore AR15. We have discussed a AR10 in 7mm08 and other calibers.

I hope he still enjoys the 6 ARC.

For your kid, I'll be glad to spin up an AR10 barrel for him. If you go that route, be on the look out for Aero special sales on build kits. I've done a few 6.5 CM barrels for friends, but never for me, most likely never will. I harvested a couple of AR10 barrels from take off Palma barrels. Mine with 13T KBI shoots real well. Harvested from my backup Palma barrel.

Let me know.

He still loves the 6mm ARC. I like the round so much I am probably going to build a bolt gun in it, and maybe build an upper for.myself in it.

The barrel you spun up seems really fast according to the chrono. It shows the 108gr about 200fps faster than the normal book loads. I am not going to complain!
