Just got a barely shot 300 RUM in the Reminton fluted varmint. Some call it the sendero some call it the VSSF. Anyone else have one? Suggestions on what bullets these guns like?

Use the bullet you want for the task.

I had 2 300 RUM, one similar, one Bench Rest. Down to the BR for now..

If you want to shoot ELR games, determine the twist and pick the bullet for it. You should be able to get it to work without too much trouble.

We started shooting the .300 RUM when it was first released in 1999. The standard factory rifles were not THAT special that they shot little tiny groups at 100 yards let alone 2-300 yards. So we built our own, gunsmiths could do that at that time. The hold up was the reamer, of course. We make our own barrels.

We use both the Remington M700 and the Winchester M70 actions. I later switched off to the Defiance actions.

Reloading was what we aspired to so I made a set of dies and we ordered bullets and powder. Primers were a given for us since we used the FGMM Magnum primers.

First off was the 180 grain Nosler Partition PP because the goal was elk. Retumbo was the primary powder. 3150 fps which provided 5/8", 3-shot groups consistently, 26".

Second attempt later was the 215 Berger over Retumbo again. 2950 fps magazine length provided a mishmash of 5/8" - 3/4" groups.

Lots of fun to shoot especially at those longer rangers beyond 500 yards. Easy load development, lots of powder and the heavier bullets. We still have a couple in the shop because we're working on some of the solids which have better availability now than back when.

Enjoy the search!

;)

I purchased a Remington 700 XCR in 300 RUM about 10 years ago. I added a Timmney trigger, B&C stock. I had the barrel cut recently from 26" to 24" and threaded to run a suppressor. Berger 215s with Retumbo at 2950 fps. I have about 575 rounds down the tube. Shoots sub moa consistently. Great gun and caliber for elk. I will add that I run the case OAL longer than bdl length so it is a single shot. I was able to shoot two cow elk out of the same heard two years ago single feeding.

What is the intended purpose for your Rum.
My first 300 and still have it is the all weather SS 26", with a laminated stock, it likes 180 Accubond with Retumbo, and
124 HH with H- 4350, went over 4000fps
But I backed it down 3900 it was more accurate.
My Montana 1999 300RUM likes 165 Swift Scirocco with Rl-23. And 215 Hybrid with N-570.
My custom Aztek Arms 300RUM 29" lite varmint contour 9twt like 230 and 215 Berger with N-570 and Retumbo also likes Rl-50.
I have been Hooked on the 7 and 300 ever since they came out, made one of my 7's into a 270Rum.
WOW sorry I got carried away, but if you want my attention, Bring Out The Rum. 🤣🎅

I always work up loads in the heat of Summer, no nasty surprises…

Amen Brother! So few people follow that philosophy!

It's very simple to determine/prove the mv's and accuracy during the typically cooler hunting seasons.

If you shoot that rifle/cartridge throughout the year……it's difficult to "reverse engineer" a excessive pressure situation that's already occurred! 😉 memtb

Keep the info coming. From reading everyone's posts it seems like the gun will shoot just about any weight bullet.

I live on a farm in which I can shoot unlimited distances. Ultimately the gun will be used for whitetail but during the off season I am sure we will punch holes through paper and some groundhogs.

When the RUM's where first introduced…..I thought that Remington had brought out the perfect or nearly so line of factory cartridges. I had long considered a 300/404 Jeffery, which would require a large bolt face…..Remington solved that issue.

I thought that the .338 RUM was the "pick of the litter"! Apparently few others including yourself thought that way. I'm very surprised to see that you don't have the .338 RUM. memtb

Skeeter41……I see that you have few posts.

If I haven't already welcomed you to the forum, I've recently slept and may have forgotten…… I will do so now.

Welcome from North Central Wyoming! memtb
