6.5 Grendel

Definitely sounds like a barrel issue! OR, it just hates the ammo as with all barrels. I'll check which 2 Hornady 123's i have as they should be a-max and sst's, but not sure if 1 or both are match. A-max would make sense on match, but not on the sst's. Check with Hornady about recalls. Is it throated enough for the 123's as I've had 1 barrel that wasn't. I don't believe headspace is an issue, only the barrel not liking the factory ammo and not necessarily the bullets. I'm a 26cal fanatic and have an exuberant amount of those pills. What is your intention with this rifle? I have nearly every brand and style of bullets (no a-tips) you could try (also no hammers). I have from 90-150 grainers fmj, match, vld, gummy tips and solids.
Appreciate the offer. I HAVE NO INTENTION of loading for a gas gun. Shoot way to fast and often to reload them.

Just a plinker with a little more azzzz to shoot steel or an occasional zombie.

Never would have purchased one, but shot my buddies and his drives tacks.

So far it does not like:

Horns 123 Black
Horns 123 SST
PSA 123 OTM
PSA 123 Sabre (just a Horns with a black tip)
PPU 120 OTM

Was told to take off brake so I did, no improvement. Told to shoot 95-113gr ammo, so I will, if no joy, it will go back.

Guess it serves me right for wanting a gas gun other than a 5.56.
If you have access to some 129 or 130s try them. But honestly if you have tried all those mentioned above and it won't shoot 1.5-1.25" groups at the very least I firmly believe you have a barrel issue. My 1 in 8 will do 1.25" with about any ammo you put in it. Way better than that with a tuner. Its bare barrel favorite is 129s.
I know it's a pain in the butt to do but I would send that rifle back and let them sort it out. The Grendel is a wonderful caliber. Sounds like you got a lemon unfortunately.

reportedly air gauged, but still something is out of whack! maybe just bad barrel harmonics? air gauged doesn't mean the barrel is straight or straight enough. i have no experience with sanders, so no comment about them.

Disappointing…but shouldn't be that bad.
I built an 18" and 12" Grendel and both shoot 90's to 123's well.
The 18" is AR Performance and is spectacular.
The 12" is REXUS/6.5 Outfitters and about 1 MOA.

I have not dealt with Saunders either so no idea there. I build from scratch or heavily modify what I buy. My Grendel's are from scratch.

i change/mod the factory builds, so i decided no more factory builds and start from scratch also. this way i get darn near exactly what and the way i want it. warrantee is of no concern, but parts warrantee is different.

I do this enough with bolt guns...I did this for a "cheaper" ( 🤔 ) way to bang. Should have left it alone. 77gr Bergers shoot well enough, and are creeping up to this in bullet weight.

When it's down to accuracy and not function in AR's, most of the time it's ammo. This might be the exception in your case. Regardless of air gaging it still could be rifling.

I can troubleshoot the function. If no accuracy, I am not wasting money on parts. I'll just put it back to its orginal configuration and send this one back to them. If they send it back and it does the same, I will just chalk it up to they all do their work on Friday afternoons.

Is a crown absolutely necesarry😳🤣🤬🤬🤬

I've modded two small frame AR 10s. A DPMS Hunter in 308 and a RUGER SFAR in 6.5 Creed. Both turned out well and both shoot well. The SFAR shot a 3 shot group at .41 this afternoon with 38.5 Varget and 123eldm's It shot a .75 5 shot group at the factory with 143 eldx.
All my AR15s are from scratch. Same reason. I get exactly what I want.
